Use of Your Bathroom
Ask a Question
Just had a couple of ao guys deliver, plumb and fit some new appliances. One timidly asked if he could use the loo and i said of course and directed him.
I chatted to other guy and said it must be difficult in their job when needing the loo to which he replied that i would be surprised how many people refuse to let them use the bathroom.
I was astounded, would you refuse this request?
Of course they could use my toilet, they can have a drink and something to eat if they needed to as well, I always try to offer. I mean I'd have much less issue for delivery people to use our toilet too if I had one by the door and you didn't have to walk through the whole house. Luckily no one has ever asked though, it would be the one day my house was an absolute mess.
It's a bit like when you pop to the shop on an anxious messy day you see everyone. On a great day where you feel great and dressed well, you see no one you know
I understand if someone was home alone and didn't feel comfortable letting someone in, I completely understand anxiety. I also understand if you don't know some random person passing who claims they need the toilet, you don't know who you are letting in to your home.
DeBunny I was home alone but they were already in the house anyway. As for random off the street......no way Jose, anyone who did that would be suss in my book. They'd have to hold on for a garage or supermarket lol.
Yes I also offered drinks when they arrived it was so hot. When my regular plumber did a new boiler we even stopped and had lunch, coffee and chat
martinlufc5637 yes that's a point. They would be straight in there after with cloths and sprays.
I would have no problem with someone using my bathroom. I remember when we were having the house painted on the outside, my husband was making breakfast so he made the workman a plate and invited him inside. They became very good friends. When the inside of the house was being painted I made the decorator tea and offered to make him lunch.
MrsCraig ..My partner, daughter & I had builders Phil & Paul his daughter's ex partner who had worked together for 20 years all over Sheffield, their families had grown up next door to each other ..
I used to make us all Bacon & Egg sandwiches every day, buy them Chocolate, Buns & Biscuits too..
Phil & Paul were like family, both mad Sheffield Wednesday fans as are my partner & daughter so gave us some books on Sheffield Wednesday, Phil had Cancer but used to come to work & we allowed him to take his time or come after he had been to the hospital..
Phil once brought his Jag as he had an hospital appointment after Lunch, he dropped me off at the home where I was looking after father in his 90's & son in his 70's who had Learning Disabilities & Autism. As Phil came round the other side of his car & opened the door for me, he thanked me & my partner for understanding about his Cancer telling me that we were one in a million, the most kind & understanding people he had ever worked for & not everyone understood & cancelled building work..
Phil died of Cancer not long after he retired & my partner & I went along to his funeral in 2019, Paul was in bits. Saw Paul a few month later & he was working down Chesterfield at some Fencing company..
Phil & Paul came highly recommended by colleagues of my partner, one who is my childhood friend so we knew they would do an excellent job..
My partner suffers social anxiety so doesn't like people working in our home but LOVED Phil & Paul..
janphoenix51 they sound amazing. It is fabulous when you find workmen like that. When you find a good workman or workmen you stick with them. I will happily wait a bit longer to get a job done by our electrician as he is brilliant.
Yup my hubby is a carpenter. Happens all the time. Usually in big posh houses as well. Sometimes if it's a long job they get portaloos
Jerseydrew I find it beyond wrong. What do they think will happen? Rich people probably have a cleaner but I still don't understand. Tradespeople are no cleaner or dirtier than anyone else. Do they think their toilet will collapse in a faint?
Of course I would let a tradesman use the loo. In fact I offer drinks as well, non alcoholic.
Never! I need the odd gin and tonic or glass of Sauvignon blanc. In fact I’ll ask my butler to put some white wine in the fridge for tonight.
As long as they’ve been ok then i don’t see a problem with letting them use the toilet. I too am surprised to hear that people actually refuse
I have heard this from so many council workers down the years even carers. It's quite shocking.I always try to make visitors feel at home not like usurpers.I offer drinks and food as well if they're open to it.It's so easy to be kind.
No , I go out of my way to be nice, if anyone does need to use the toilet they are welcome to use it as long as they wash their hands!!
I have never said no to anyone that's been doing jobs in my home, makes it a bit easier as I have a downstairs cloakroom.
It depends on the person who is asking. I don't really want strangers using my bathroom or having unsupervised access to any part of my home. I had a council worker once who was fixing my boiler. He wanted to be left alone in my bedroom. He was really creepy, and I just wasn't having that.
You cannot refuse people who come to do a job at your house for you not to access/ use of your toilet. Would you rather they pee on your floor
LL81 No I would rather they took five minutes to walk down the road and use the cafe toilets.
Absolutely I would. yes they are there to do a job but they are Human beings and need to go like everyone else. And I always offer a cuppa or cold drink
I have never said no to anyone who needed to use my loo
The way i see things is i would not like to be refused and left to burst
So why should i make anyone else
We never refused to use our bathroom to anyone those comes in our home for work or deliver anything but do have one complain as we Men’s at home don’t use while standing they aren’t allowed sound funny but those peoples in our community they knw truth, when someone outsider use they do while standing up all toilet seat goes wet with .. then we have to wash full wipe then we use W as we pray need everything clean we use water both thanks Lynibis for this topic and hope your understand our couture in my comment all truth personal experience edit we have 2 bathrooms most they use downstairs one
I have no problems with work men using my toilet and I always ask if they would like a cup of coffee/ tea or a can of pop
Well i wouldn't refuse them access. But just a couple days ago, we had workers at our new house. Anyway one of them had used the toilet for a number 2, and not cleaned up after themself. Absolutely disgusted. Still wouldnt refuse access but will always check after they use it and order them back in bathroom to clean it
chantelle1992t My daughter had the same issue with a chap who was doing DIY in her flat. He left some skid marks. Not nice.
chantelle1992t I once asked JL delivery driver to remove the shoes, during wet weather in late autumn, as he wanted to use the toilet and it was upstairs (I had a runner on the staircase) and he said he don't want to use it anymore.
