Would You Visit a Restaurant That Had Been on Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares

Other

The absolute filth in some of these places would put me off going even after Gordon has been in and overhauled the place, and on occasion even taught the 'chefs' to cook!

If they can allow a kitchen to look like a landfill site prior to his visit, nothing would persuade me that they would be any better when he has been and gone.

I remember reading that most of the restaurants Ramsey “saved” still went out of business anyway but yeah i probably wouldn’t eat at one because whilst i’m not naive enough to think restaurants are spotlessly clean, i couldn’t eat somewhere where i had seen actual evidence of the filth

jms19 I know of several (City & Guilds) trained chefs who blames bad management for the mess these types of restaurants get into. Most owners only see their restaurants has a money-making business and don't care one bit what goes on back or front of house.

jms19 yes, I watched lots of the American ones where he went back months later and they had either folded or things were not much better.

jam45 that's very true, mismanagement is rife everywhere it seems. However, no chef worth the title should be working in a filthy kitchen.

Nope not a chance probably would only been clean for a few days and go back to the way it was

Leannexxx exactly my thoughts. If you were filthy before I can't see you suddenly becoming a clean freak and that is what you need to be to run a restaurant.

martinlufc5637 when I watch the first part of nightmares it truly is horrendous and I watch between fingers as it's like a horror movie. Rotting food, filthy floors, caked on grime on kitchen utensils, ovens etc. I have little faith that they would keep up any sort of cleanliness once Gordon has left.

I think I have watched most of the US programmes.

To be honest i think a lot is staged

If these restaurants know they are going to be filmed , why wouldn't they clean up the filth beforehand ?

Because they wouldn't have a program if they did, and they couldn't show how Gordon has miraculously saved their premises from going under

I don't doubt that there are a lot of genuine cases where they are in trouble and need help, but when it is a filmed television series i think a lot is exaggerated to keep the viewers interested

But then the flipside would be would you visit a restaurant that had been in such a state originally ?

They might have cleaned up their act but might fall back into their old ways and would you risk food poisoning ?

Possibly people might visit out of curiosity though to meet the people involved in the tv series

telmel you are so right. Nothing these days is as it seems. I seem to be questioning everything I see and hear. It won't be long before we are living in a totally fake world!

telmel You're right regarding being filmed. I remember reading about these restaurants being paid by the TV's producer to let Gordon Ramsey turn their businesses around. In other words, the whole thing is staged for entertainment only.

I worry about a lot of restaurants these days and how they are run. Some restaurants you can see into the kitchen which I like but many the hygiene is awful.

eyeballkerry absolutely. My son took me to buy a 2nd hand car many, many years ago and we were taken through a restaurant kitchen to the back yard to see the car. The kitchen was indescribably filthy I couldn't understand why they had no shame.

telmel I actually had a tour around our local KFC and at the end we were allowed to put our own order together. I must admit I was very impressed with behind the scenes at our one.

I don’t know about worldwide restaurants but as someone who works in catering (cafe not restaurant) I would not dine anywhere with less than a clearly displayed 4 hygiene rating from environmental health.

JLouM I am sorry to disappoint you regarding 5-star ratings. I have "used" supermarkets and cafe where there is obliviously mould on the food tongs, dirty trays (not cleaned and contained dried food of a different type as to the type used to display the food) and no I did not go ahead and used the tongs or purchased the food on the dirty trays.

jam45 Obviously use your common sense if you see for yourself a place is dirty. It may be their rating was out of date/expired. For most places though a 5 rating is usually good.
