Who is to blame for the Post Office scandal? Will they get prosecuted ?
In the News
According to the Department for Business and Trade there have been 983 UK-wide convictions, with 700 being Post Office prosecutions and 283 by the Crown Prosecution Service, since the Horizon System was installed in 1999.
Between 1999 and 2015, the Post Office prosecuted 700 sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses - an average of one a week - based on information from a faulty computer system called Horizon.
I doubt it, it's just typical that these people have been fighting to clear their names for years and it has taken a TV programme to get things moving super fast, we all know that royal mail and the government tried to cover this up big time
I have just read this in the news online, another unbelievable jigsaw piece to this scandal
Post office investigators were paid CASH BONUSES for every postmaster convicted during the horizon scandal
No wonder the convictions went ahead despite all the evidence stacked against the Horizon system
Absolutely disgusting, heads need to roll
By the way that CBE that Paula Vennells handed back in shame should be given to Alan Bates for all he did for the victims

I just don’t understand how they didn’t realise something was up when so many longstanding sub post masters all of a sudden decided to “steal” from them.
From reading a few things it seems like they just swept it under the rug because they knew it would be too big an issue to sort
Fujitsu need to be fully prosecuted for this, let their insurance take the hit for compensation rather than British tax payers. There should be a huge number of other people prosecuted too, kicked out of their jobs and their pensions taken from them and possibly custodial sentences for some. Just another indication of the true incompetence of politicians in this country and seems to effect all parties, Liberal Democrat, Conservative and Labour. All utterly useless individuals who can't do their job competently and yet pay themselves huge sums.
BonzoBanana I agree. Compensation needs to be paid by the organisation who produced the faulty system. Seems like anyone with connections can call themselves a politician, show off their level of incompetence in doing their job and still be paid large amounts of money.
Clearly, the system wasn't investigated because it benefitted enough people in power not to do this. Not even a system investigation by the police OR Crown Prosecution Service that could have cleared these people. No suspicion at all as numbers grew (speaks to the level of how they can not be trusted to effectively do their jobs!). Unsurprisingly, someone benefitted financially from all these unjust prosecutions. I hope the investigators will have to pay back their conviction bonus money to the victims. Humans do a lot of nasty things to each other - this is just one example of how things can roll in this country if you're not in a position of power
Offering the victims £600,000 max is an absolute insult , some are only going to get £75,000
Don't get me wrong, i believe in supporting the Ukraine, for example, safety and democracy are at stake but the government have already sent £9.3 billion of tax payers money there at the drop of a hat , and i read they are pledging another £1.6 billion
So why are they offering this pittance to people so wronged, some committed suicide , most lost their homes and livelihoods , aren't they worthy also ??
Besides Fujitsu should be made to fork out for the victims , they caused the tragedy , but i wouldn't hold my breath, look what China caused in the world with covid, and nobody has challenged them in regards to compensation !!
telmel and that's what happens with this country give but don't help there own we have helped given somewhere to live paid for them and yet we still have thousands of people of are own living on the streets and some are not happy either with there living accommodation well sorry to say go home if you don't like it some people just expect everything handled to them
