Did You Watch Breathtaking?
Ask a Question
To date, nearly 200,000 people have died of Covid-19 in the UK. It’s an astonishingly high figure for the virus that came to the shore in the first months of 2020. The new three-part drama ‘Breathtaking’ on ITV takes viewers inside the healthcare system to witness how doctors desperately tried to keep up with a rapidly spreading virus against inert government advice.
The show is based on the book ‘Breathtaking: Inside the NHS in a Time of Pandemic’ by British palliative care doctor Rachel Clarke. During the pandemic, she took note of her experiences within the UK’s National Health Service
As a nurse it brought back memories , just wondered what people thought of it ???
No haven't watched it yet and don't really want to watch it I know what happened but do we really have to keep seeing it? It was awful for everyone
I am not brave enough to watch dramas like this. As I get older I find many more things on tv (let alone real life) make me sad and angry. Sometimes I am caught unawares like the other night watching a particularly harrowing old episode of Silent Witness. I found myself sobbing and shouting at the tv, I must have seemed like a mad woman so it's a good thing my house is well sound proofed and I live alone.
Absolutely not. Why do we want to live through it again? It was horrendous at the time and I followed everything from the beginning to the end. No I want to forget it and carry on with life now.
No I haven't watched, I don't like these kind of things, I feel lucky to have survived COVID, many didn't unfortunately
No - I don't feel the need to revisit that specific period. Not a fan of stylised real life events.
I watched it and sobbed throughout, I knew I would but couldn’t resist seeing a consultants view.
I watched it- I liked the fact that they bought the fact that there were the doubters - putting lies up on social media etc.
i was lucky - i was and still am having cancer treatment and had covid for 8 weeks- all i had was a few headaches- not even a temperature. I think i am incredibly lucky.
Aenurse1 well I’ve been classed as ‘incurable’ since 2018 but I’m still here! I count myself as incredibly lucky !
I haven't and don't intend to watch it! Television is meant to be for entertainment, and I didn't want to spend 3 nights being depressed, it's something we've only just been through, that hasn't completely gone away, and wasn't handled correctly in the first place, why on earth would I want to watch yet another Covid programme
The ITV Drama on the Post Office scandal was brilliant, and has done a great deal of good, Breathtaking will bring up old resentment, ill feeling and unhappiness, it should have been left alone!
JoTarpley i was amazed at the Post Office series. I knew there was scandal and problems but I didn’t realise how bad it was. But how disgusting is it that it took a tv series to push everything forward a bit.
suevernon1968 Me too! The more I watched it , the more I couldn't believe what I was seeing, didn't they do it well though, they'll win some TV Awards for much more than a brilliant TV Series and rightly so!! x
JoTarpley it was incredibly realistic. But what is really sad is the fact that people actually did commit suicide and others went to prison etc. really hit me.
suevernon1968 I know, you just can't imagine the hell they went through, so incredibly sad!! x
JoTarpley and some people still don’t believe it was true ! Why would the government etc lie and manage to fake it! One of my cancer nurses lost her mum to it. So so sad.
