Did You Watch Mr Bates vs The Post Office ?
Ask a Question
Watched the first episode of Mr Bates v the post office last night and I’m hooked. One of Britains biggest miscarriages of justice and then found out this am on breakfast news that compensation has STILL not been paid to some
Did you watch ?? What’s your thoughts ?
The way these people has been treated is a national disgrace, some went to prison, I will watch it on catch up today, which channel was it on?
I have set it to record but will wait for it to finish and watch it all in one go, but yes I'm really looking forward to watching it as well.
It shows the arrogance that exists with these big companies , its a similar story with energy and water companies, they treat their customers with disdain and make it impossible to challenge decisions
The same goes with the Inland Revenue, the DWP and other government owned institutions
They always have the last word and if they say you owe them you have to pay up
I wonder how many stories of injustice similar to this post office scandal will materialise in future years ?
I watched them all on ITVX.
I won't give anything away, but the way these people were treat was disgusting.
I hope the tv show sparks further investigations into how this happened (and where did the money go).
Yes saw it last night, thought it was really good. Absolutely disgraceful the way the post office treated and bullied these people , many lost everything including their homes. Couldn't actually believe it when the one appeared in court and was not only told to pay the missing money back I think about £29000 but was also instructed to pay over £300,000 costs that the post office has incurred . If only he had that sort of public money available to he him to defend himself maybe the shoe would have been on the other foot .
It was atrocious and the Post Office should be bloody ashamed and disgusted . I admire the actually Alan Bates refused a knighthood as 1 of the people who was running the Post office was given a knighthood and it was made to look as a reward for there disgusting actions .Its absolutely horrendous that everything was stacked against them against the Post Office.
I didn’t watch it but I will thanks to your post. I followed the case a bit and it was disgusting what they did to those post masters. A few even took their own lives i think which is a sad state of affairs.
I did read they hadn’t paid out yet and the compensation amounts offered was not great
I stumbled on it last night and will definitely be back for seconds. So many lives destroyed by Corporate Skullduggery. It was horrendous.
I have it on my absolute watch list, so will watch it on catch up when I am able.
It's a national disgrace. I cannot understand why individuals who led this witch hunt have not had to answer for their crimes.
It is absolutely despicable the way that they were treated. It should never have been allowed to happen. What Alan Bates did is remarkable.
MrsCraig It is unbelievable how the post office covered it all up and it’s not dissimilar to the BBC and Jimmy Saville, so many lives ruin.
It's a really really difficult piece to watch. I'm making myself do it to honour those who suffered in the most vile way. I'm writing to my mp when I've watched the last programme. Those who lied and colluded to destroy lives will be held accountable
Paula Vennells should be stripped of her CBE,everyone let's sign the petition to make it happen!
I didn't watch it but heard about this in the news around the time some were offered compensation. Doesn't surprise me that some still haven't received any - absolutely horrendous. Destroyed lives and families yet what was done to them is so minimised.
There's an mp on gmb now discussing this. Richard Madeley is taking no prisoners about it. Gotta love a journalist like him.
Stunned to say the least. I remember all the coverage it got - with the sub postmasters struggling to get the truth but this really shows how indepth it was for these poor people
Well done to Alan Bates for sticking up to the mighty Post Office,a real hero, shame he turned down his award but I can see why he didn't want it...
I've watched it all. It was hard to watch. But it was good in the sense it got the story across. I was very aware already I remember I was only 18 when it all started it seemed to be on the news all the time for quite a number of years but then not mentioned for awhile until more recently. I'm surprised alot of people aren't aware of what happened until now. It's so tragic. So many lives destroyed. It's a disgrace that people have not received compensation and some criminal convictions not overturned. There say people who haven't already come forward should do so and seek compensation and those with criminal convictions apply to the courts. It shouldn't be the case. The Post Office know who was working for them so should just contact people to offer them compensation. The courts should contact people who was wrongly convicted to tell them this. It shouldn't be up to the the individual who has already suffered so much. I hope more is done for the victims now the program has been made.
