Whats Bad about Car Boots?

Surprisingly they seem to have all but disappeared in my area , used to be loads of them around but not anymore .

I saw one advertised for tomorrow, thought they were a Sunday thing. They opened up to buyers and sellers at 7am , I thought that was nuts. Nothing more annoying than someone poking about when you are trying to set up.

Go to your local car boot sale. Your belongings may be there

I guess it’s when the sellers are just selling tat or have their prices way too high. Not the best when it’s raining either.

I went to my first car boot this weekend, it started at 1pm until 4pm. That's why I went, who wants to shop at dawn on a Sunday...... Not me.

I used to do them but stopped. I found the booking fee was more than I could actually make so negated the whole thing. People really only want to pay you pennies even for quality items. It’s just not worth it any more. When I look around to buy it’s mostly kid’s clothes and toys. Not relevant to me or just tat.

I have one near me every Sunday afternoon.I love it to bits.

I used to like a car boot many years ago and really enjoyed browsing around at the sellers wares but found that there were getting too many traders so stopped going.

The entry price to sell at them can be quite high. It is £6 at our local car boot, which seems quite steep.

I used to do them years ago and I found then the most annoying thing was when people tried to take things out of the boot of my car before I had chance to set up the items on the table.We got wise to this and my son stood guard while I unloaded.Apart from this, we had some fun times and generally enjoyed the experience.

The ones near me charge you to use the toilet - it’s outrageous considering that you have to pay to set up there already

We used to have loads where I am but not so much since covid. People sell on Facebook these days. I don't really do them as others have said people want everything thing for nothing and it's more hassle then it's worth. Also setting up a carboot is a nightmare as you get people riffling through your stuff while setting up

I haven't gone for a few years. I do like them but I'm too much of a hoarder anyway so I try to resist. The one I used to go to the parking was a rough field which is fine if you have a range rover but if you have a car like mine with conventional smaller wheels it's a bit of a workout for the suspension. I would never go when its raining for that reason.

The most recent one I went to was by chance when I walked from the Weymouth park and ride to the town centre/beach and while going through the main car park there was a car boot there so I had a look around while passing. Even that was a few years ago though.

Seems like car boots are just too commercial now with very high fees. In the past it was something like £5 to sell and free entry for one of our local car boots and that seemed fair. There was one field you went into for parking and the other field for selling, only the selling field had someone at the gate taking the £5. There were no facilities at all. There was about 80-120 stalls I would guess on average so they were getting £400-600 in revenue and it was only open a few hours, viewing perhaps 10-4pm and open at 9am for sellers. There was only 2 members of staff likely family members of the person who owned the fields. So about £500 income per week and it was open about 20 weeks of the year so £10k which seems a fair and reasonable income to me for use of 2 fields and 2 staff for a few hours per week. However I feel like car boots should be run as a community event without much in the way of profit but the reality is the complete opposite now with very high profiteering. I seem to remember one car boot was run for the benefit of a charity with all profits going there but can't remember the details. There was a time when it seemed like there were about six car boots in the Yeovil area but now (without checking) it just feels like one.

I'm not a fan of car boots, but kids love to go, no way I'd be going at half 4 in the morning though

The face that they tend to be on grass which puts a stop to me going. I cant walk far on my crutches and it always rains there is a car boot - I’m bound to get stuck !

I love a car boot, we always used to go as kids but not so much anymore as there’s not so many local. Worst thing for me is people selling dirty stuff I wash any clothes I buy for my children anyway before worn but come on! At least give your stuff a wipe over/clean before selling on x
