Traveling Abroad for Surgery: Is It Safe or Risky?

Ask a Question

Brit woman, 20, who died after botched Turkey surgery was bullied about size www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/brit-woman-20-who-died-31943140

It seems to be the new thing to travel abroad for different surgery’s , including gastric bypass surgery , but also a lot of cosmetic surgery , what do you think of it ? , would you consider as it is much cheaper or do you think it’s dangerous as shown in this story ??

Never. If there were any problems I doubt they would invite you back for a fix. It would be down to the nhs to correct their handiwork.

So many stories recently of people dying, obviously lots go and don’t die but it does seem a big risk. As others say, you are made the way you are. We are all pressured into being something that others believe is normal. We are all different and special in our own ways.

I know a woman who went to Turkey for surgery and was admitted to hospital the day she arrived back in the uk!

Sad that she passed away and was bullied. Wherever you have surgery and whatever the cost, you're putting yourself at risk. Too many people end up relying on the NHS to save them when they come home on a pressurised flight barely healed. There is a lot of pressure in society to have a certain body type, however, we all have the option not to allow ourselves to be pressured into surgery 🤔

If i wanted/needed anything done like that, i would consider it because it’s a lot cheaper than having it done. Obviously i would research it all properly because there are a few of these horror stories floating about

I think it’s far too dangerous. We hear a lot about botched jobs. Being bullied is horrible and can drive you to these things and make you not want to live any more.

I would definitively consider dental implants abroad (if I had the money) as I’m unable to wear dentures and lost my own teeth due to a severe illness. Why is it so much more expensive here?

Personally i would be sceptical about going abroad for surgery, thou i know quite a few people that have done so and it's be really successful, however I have heard many horror stories about botched jobs and surgery that has gone wrong also.

For dental work yes most definately ...lived in costa rica for 22 years and had fantastic cheap dental work done ..UKs dental service is antiquated compared and almost impossable to get regestered with ..its an embaresment

Problem is waiting lists are so long here, that some people go abroad, I wouldn't do it personally, I know a few who have and have had problems, NHS foots the bill for these butchers mistakes

It seems to me that a disproportionate amount of people who go abroad for 'treatment' end up being admitted to the nhs for emergency remedial work which is a terrible drain on resources. I find this unacceptable if it is cosmetic surgery which they have wanted and willingly put themselves through. If they really can't resist then get the work done in the UK where standards are higher!
