Who is an eBay seller? Or Amazon Marketplace?

Is anyone here a regular eBay seller or at Amazon marketplace?
I often come across big discounts or price glitches and see that it's being sold on Amazon and eBay for much more.
Seems to be an easy opportunity to make money?
I've never done it before though, and so would be interested to hear your experiences if you do it regularly.
I buy a lot from both Ebay and Amazon... don't sell for personal use but do manage accounts for clients. Amazon fees are just crazy. You constantly have to keep winning the Buy Box at a steady rate inorder to keep the marketplace account. It's very competitive I find. Still learning as I go. Have got a few online courses lined up for the new year
Amazon's better in my experience. They pre-charge the fees and all you have to worry afterwards once sold, is shipping it.
eBay = eBay after sold fees + Paypal fees
It'd work out better if eBay pre-charged the fees like on Amazon.
Tom Yes, if it doesn't sell no fee. Customers usually don't post feedback too or if they do, it's for the product which I'd entirely different.
Buuy started up this year. It may be a website of interest. http://www.buuy.co.uk/
Are many people using this site? Facebook also created their own marketplace but I haven't heard anyone discussing this.
I wouldn't think so, they've only just recently launched. They did start up last year to become like Amazon with business sellers but then they took it down, and I think they partnered with somebody else and now it looks more like ebay.
Tom I do sell a lot of stuff via FB Marketplace. Its quick, although I am bit vary about giving my house address on there to people who query wanting to collect the item in person. So I just meet them at the nearest supermarket car park! Some people mess about and do not honour the sale or simply don't turn up! Most have been quiet friendly and easy going. My pet peev is when they haggle for further price reduction when they come to collect the item! You just stick to your guns at that point! It's a long winded process but it works and get a lot of views.
Recently I was looking for a plasterer and posted on there, it also gives you an option to auto post same deal to your local buy and sell group! I got inundated with plastering companies within minutes and had a plasterer the very next day to start on the job!
It's a genius way to advertise!
Ebay charge too much, after you list 20 item a month you need to pay for listing and if you sell they also charge, which is some kind of set price every month, so you need to calculate if it is worth it, because I did not have a nice Ebay selling experience, after they charge me around 50 percent....
I do not know. I actually lost money there. Payed to month charge 30 pounds. It seemed a lot of money for me, because in the second month I hardly sell anything, but they still charge me 15 pounds.
AgnesFaludi I sell on ebay quite a lot, but ebay only charge 10% of the final sale price are you really paying 50%???
sarahwalmley They charge for listing items and also a monthly a certain amount. Yeah I payed the monthly cost 2x even the second month I sold nothing, it put me off to sell anything there. And yeah I payed 50% of my sales to them if we calculate all the amount I payed for them. I think it is not fair to charge for all of these things....
AgnesFaludi when I list items it's free I've sold quite a lot recently on eBay and certainly don't pay a monthly fee. Are you selling as a business as I assume that is why they charge? Still unfair really!!
Hi there, Justin Hodnett here, Co-Founder and CTO of Buuy Just come across this post on Google and surprised to see it, so thanks for the mention! Yes, you are correct, we've decided to go down a similar route to eBay, but with a few differences, we don't charge a penny for anything. Free to Join, Free to List and Free to Sell - No Commission, only the fees set out by PayPal. Even opening a store with unlimited products is free, no set up or monthly costings to think about. We've been toying with the idea as to what to actually turn Buuy into for a number of months until we hit upon this idea. We're here to show you can have a well designed site, easy to use and operate and still provide a great customer service without £millions in the bank. Its still early days, but we're growing, daily.. Soon, we'll be very well known. So, if you're thinking of listing items to sell, think of Buuy!!
Interesting... looking into it now One question though Mr Hodnett.... how do you make money(if not to stash in the bank but just survive the business) if everything is Free? #justwondering
Hi Justin, welcome to LD
Thanks for explaining Buuy but I'm afraid we don't allow self promotion. We're a community of bargain hunters so it would be up to your members/customers to come and rave about Buuy on LD rather than you or any of your employees. If you'd like to get in touch with us please do but otherwise all the best with Buuy
Kelsey Would it be possible for LD to have a For Sale section? Having an All-In-One would be great.
i sell unwanted things on ebay but i tend to get really low bids/ prices when i've expected/ hoped for more. Most of the time my items dont sell which means i have to relist. so frustrating
I tend to put my listing on with a but it now price and you can list it for 30 days then I'm not disappointed with the price when I sell :-)
One of my main jobs is selling on eBay and Amazon, if you choose to sell products that have enough of a product margin then the fees aren't an issue
I use both but I think the seller fees for Ebay are a bit snide. I didnt know where I was with them really. I only buy on Amazon(mostly using giftcards through my frugality). I prefer ebay but tbh I use Amazon much more.
