Why Does the 'Whoops' Message Keep Failing?

Latest Deals

This morning i have spent over an hour trawling through my emails and posting 3 competitions. None of them displayed the whoops message at time of posting, but all have been removed.

The first one was for a bottle of rum and the closing date was later in May but i was told i was pipped to the post and when i checked it was an old expired post but obviously the prize had been offered again.

Another was a pipped to the post which had been posted 15 hours ago so surely time for whoops to click in.

The 3rd was also a 'pipped' one but i would have posted the correct date but it was also expired.

I am not going the contact form route as i am wondering if this is just me or do others keep having the same problems? I often have this happen but never all three at once.

Maybe the team and members can correct me if i have this all wrong.

I have been having a few problems L too

I had a freebie removed yesterday as a duplicate, it was for a free bottle of orange, i think fanta

But the original was a different offer from ages ago , the one i posted was new, still waiting for a response about it

So it is not just you , and its annoying that when removed it takes away from other members who could have enjoyed the free product

telmel Hi I have personally looked into this.

I have found your Fanta post linked to www.coca-cola.com/gb/en/legal/fanta-fenix-2024-terms

It is for "Play our Fanta Ride N Sip game" within the Coca-Cola app to get coupon for free Fanta.

It was marked as a duplicate of a post posted earlier in the day by another member for the same promotion: Download Coca-Cola app, play the game, get free coupon.

The links go to different places but it is the same promotion.

It's for this reason it was marked as a duplicate, I hope that helps explain why.

Thanks!

Hi Lynibis I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad experience posting competitions on Latest Deals and that our 'whoops' duplicate detection system didn't pick up on some before you went through the effort of posting them. That is frustrating.

Unfortunately our 'whoops' system is quite crude, especially with competitions, and easily falls over. We do need to improve it.

In short, 'whoops' looks the link you share, and sees if someone else also shared that link. If the links are the same, then it will alert you. If the links are different, then it won't.

With competitions, it's tricky because different links point to the same competition via different websites. For example, one of your posts that went into moderation was for a B&M Big Competition.

You posted the following link: www.bmstores.co.uk/competitions/bandm-big-competition-three-chances-to-win-a-50-westland-bundle-plus-a-50-bandm-gift-card

'Whoops' looked it up and found no one else had posted that link, so no duplicate detection warning was given, you rightly went ahead and wrote up the post - thank you!

Unfortunately, turns out B&M has the same competition running on Facebook. So someone else had posted the competition with the following link: www.facebook.com/share/WtxjmSFjdt6LReSw/

The links are completely different, so 'whoops' does not pick up on it, but they both refer to the same competition: B&M bundles all the entries together from the website and social media and picks winners from the same pool.

I hope this explains why sometimes your competition posts may not receive duplicate detection warnings.

'Whoops' is something we need to improve, especially for competitions, although it is a real head-scratcher I have to admit!
