Why Are People Still Wearing Masks?
Ask a Question
I see people walking around on their own wearing disposable/ cloth masks. Does this mean they have Covid? I can not understand if they are outside why they are wearing them. Can someone explain this to me?
MelissaLee1 Well, technically scared of death - for themselves or/and vulnerable loved ones, but equally held at ransom.
hky Death is just part of life, just as is being Born.
We're born, we live our lives, and then we die. So, if anything, it's more about how we'll die whether peaceful or painfully that should matter.
PhilipMarc With you on that and how we treat one another in the interim period matters loads as well.
PhilipMarc I agree it's a part of life; and like you say, people simply care how they will die, so they don't want to cut short their own and vulnerable loved ones lives and die painfully of covid if it's avoidable.
I think people should just respect it/ take it as the norm, rather than give the queer look/make fun/look down on those just wanting to survive in their own way. (Of course, I know probably most people are respectful, whether they find it odd or not and it's fine/great to ask why to understand like this thread).
I still feel vulnerable when I am in crowded areas which I avoid. Those wearing masks may just have a cold or another virus and are avoiding passing it on.When I next fly, I will be wearing a mask as I caught a nasty bug which came out some days later.
My daughter told me if someone is wearing a mask then they have covid.
In Asia they have worn them for years if they have got a cold or flu.
Yes I have noticed a lot more mask wearing, usually the older generation, maybe they just feeling safer wearing one!
Covid is still with us, most of us have built up immunity to it but others have weakened immune systems or other issues or maybe they live with vulnerable older relatives where they don't wish to bring a dangerous virus back to their home which could kill their elderly relatives. In Japan they were wearing face masks long before covid so workers didn't spread illnesses they had. You often saw a huge amount of people on trains with face masks. Japan is a very elderly population typically with extended family homes. I think wearing a face mask is the right decision for a lot of people. I think there are more that should be wearing them that don't.
They are probably extremely vulnerable due to pre existing health issue.
My Dad wore a mask all the time, due to suffering from interstitial lung disease.
A dose of Covid would almost certainly have been fatal to him.
Cloth/paper masks don't really do anything other than hide one's identity.
I actually bought a very thin cloth mask from AliExpress precisely for that.
There is still a lot wearing them in my area it's one of them if they feel comfortable going out with one on that's fine when I got covid I just didn't go out
There are lots of people with vulnerable immune systems so it’s safer for them to be cautious.
To protect my identity. By concealing my face I can maintain a level of anonymity and keep my personal life separate from my crime-fighting activities. This helps me protect myslef and those close to me from potential harm or reprisal by my enemies. Additionally, the mask adds to the mystique and intimidation factor of my persona.
It's the ones wearing the masks in a car on their own that gets me. Always want to ask them if they wear condoms 24/7 just in case. I mean ridiculous isn't it. Same as a household in a car all in masks. I saw it where I live. I know they are a household as its people I know.
Jerseydrew It's probably just convenient to put it on ready for when they get out the car - they could just be driving to the next shop etc and kept it on instead of taking on and off.
I put mine on ready when I got a lift so I didn't have to fiddle with it (everyone's face is different so fitting is different).
Jerseydrew I have seen this too and wonder at it, also walking outside in open air. I could understand if it was tucked under chin and ready to pop on when entering a shop or somewhere with people, but the discomfort is not worth it when alone.
Face masks are also good for hayfever/allergies - probably gd for avoiding secondhand smoke / bad smells etc, too.
Like me..that still does out shopping..because you get people coughing right next to you with no effort to cover their mouth/face..it's disgusting..should of worn a covering sooner
We were forced to wear them for so long . I think some people feel like their are protected and comfortable wearing them.
Me and my partner have anxiety as well as my partner having asthma. We wear masks in the doctors or if we are somewhere where there are loads of people. ( We dont really go near people in general ). I think people want to feel protected and me personally I wish people who were unwell either wouldn’t go and spread it or wear a mask.
I know in big cities around the world some people will wear masks hoping it will stop their bodies being affected by pollution
