Will You Be Sending Christmas Cards This Year?

Ask a Question

Due to the cost of stamps will be sending cards or just cut down? The cards are cheaper than a stamp, doesn’t make sense.

JLouM I have really cut down over the years and also hand deliver when possible. I think eventually it will die out as my children don’t bother.

eyeballkerry I was just thinking the same thing, every year we receive and send less. I prefer to make a donation to charity, used to do that in work instead of sending to colleagues but due to postage I send fewer and fewer cards, my family all live in Wales so can't hand deliver. Only send about 5 down from 20+

I always send Xmas cards. Nowadays I don't have hardly any to post. Deliver the rest by hand

How bonkers is this article.

Apparently if you send more than 75 Christmas Cards it would be cheaper to fly abroad to post them!

blacklabrador I can totally believe this. But unfortunately all the cards are going to different places. I wouldn’t mind hand delivering abroad.

I stopped doing cards a couple of years ago tbh for most people. I’ll give my two kids one but that’s about it as they only go in the bin anyway

EKWilkes89 I have cut down and it is becoming a bit of a waste now. I still send a couple abroad and to my dad if I don’t see very often.

eyeballkerry yeah something like that is understandable tbh but family nearby and friends etc I don’t see the point nowadays

I send a few cards especially to friends and family I don’t see often. Then I hand deliver majority of the others. I must admit I do enjoy receiving a Christmas card.

I will post a few this year but it has really decreased over the years. I will also hand deliver to a couple of the neighbours but otherwise it is mainly family that I give to.

janphoenix51 My husband writes the cards for his family and then takes them to his dads house. All the family do this and collect their cards from there.

eyeballkerry ...We can't do that as we live in Sheffield & my partner's family are over 300 miles away in Portadown, Northern Ireland...

I am sending ONE and that's because I begrudge paying outrageous Royal Mail costs. And the only reason that I'm sending ONE is because of an offer (I'm not sure whether it has been posted here on LD, I can't find it anyway)

You can get a personalised A5 card (doesn't have to be an Xmas one) delivered to whoever you like, or to yourself with a spare envelope for a mere 75p! That's cheaper than the cost of RM 2nd class postage!

Use code 75PCARD when you checkout. Offer ends 30th November, I think 🤔

No, I won't be sending any Christmas cards this year. I lost my dad earlier in the year, and because of the will, there has been a family falling out, so not going to waste my money.

mudgesheila50 Sorry to hear of your lost and so sad when families fall out. My brother recently disowned me as he is an alcoholic and I tried to help.

Nope, I don't want to receive any either. I'm not a scrouge, I love Christmas but cards just seem such a waste to me. I'll be seeing people that matter the most over the period. I usually mass text everyone else Christmas Eve.

MelissaLee1 That is very true with an e card. It will get to the stage where we will get an e card and we have to print it out ourselves at home.

I don't think it will be long before we go back to 'pony post' as royal mail are pricing themselves out of everyday life. Some friends visited us at the end of November and brought their Christmas card to us with them to save a stamp! We send very few through the post.

Most hand delivered through December, international posted and the remainder posted 2nd class. Also, not 100% sure all get delivered: how do you check? I've started adding "posted (with date)" under the stamp so recipient can see how long it took from posting to delivery.

Send less and less each year and make a point of trying to see people I haven't seen for a while to deliver by hand. The price of each stamp is the price of a litre of petrol nowadays. How ridiculous is that?

I sent about 10 late November, 5 of which were family living away (2 doubling up with Birthday cards for Dec and Jan) the other 5 to longstanding friends who needed to know my details had changed

My friend gets all her family separate cards but she puts their Christmas card in plus Easter and the families birthday cards for the year and posts them in one envelope for the same price it would cost to send 1 at a time
