Ask a Question

I read this before but can't find the link now this woman has a clean record but she's got a face tattoo it's nothing bad but she's struggling to find work because of it and she feels discriminated against because of in my opinion it shouldn't matter who someone looks or overweight if they can do they job why shouldn't they get it

I must admit I dislike tattoos immensely. The odd discreet one is no problem and I would certainly employ someone with the odd one that isn't staring you in the face whenever you look at them. My problem is that I have to wonder about the person's reasoning as to why they want to deface their face!

It looks ugly and is self imposed and I have to admit I really would find it hard to employ someone with face and neck tattoos, especially those who have covered their face with them. But then again is there a degree of tattoo, if I can accept a small one why not a large one. Just glad I am not an employer.

Lynibis some have them on their face because it's art to them I don't see any difference to a face tattoo to someone who has plastic surgery

Leannexxx That's their choice, but businesses may not want someone who has their face and/or body full of tattoos as it gives them a bad image.

I watch a guy on YouTube who films abandoned properties and it creeps me that his arms are completely tattooed. Yikes.

Lynibis I agree with you. She clearly made a conscious choice to get the tattoo and must face the consequences of it. Surely she must have known it would impact on her ability to gain employment in the future?? Companies have to take into account how their customers would feel when faced with someone with a tattoo anywhere this is visible. I am also glad I am not an employer.

Lynibis Well said. You are going to stand out as different and this can affect who will employ you. I really do not like the large piecing in peoples ears, turns my stomach.

I can see some companies discriminating against this if they deal directly with the public. They’d be face for the company and I can see some people maybe not wanting to deal with her as some people are so against tattoos and think people with tattoos are rude, arrogant etc. Personally speaking I don’t think anyone should be discriminated against for anything, race, religion or even tattoos cause these people will probably do job much better than white, good living person. I love tattoos and have few myself but none on my face but each to their own as they say

PhilipMarc cos I said people can discriminate for lots of reasons, race, religion therefore thinking if they’re white, good living, no tattoos etc they’ll do job much better. Was just trying to point out what some employers might believe. Please don’t think I believe that cos my granddaughter has mixed race cousins, white aunt, black uncle and they’re salt of the earth and probably some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I’m sorry if u found offence and maybe I could have worded that better

It depends on the job. An employee represents the company they work for and are often chosen to emulate the image that company wishes to project of itself. It isn't fair but it is what it is.

Leannexxx Sure, it falls under discrimination, but companies have the right to hire people if they are suitable. Face tattoos are a big no for many.

A guy like this below would be rejected at most:

All those tattoos would just make me want to avoid the employee/business.

P.S. That wannabe Joker is a killer.

EmmaWright762 I agree with what ur saying but it’s discrimination and everyone should be treated equally. Maybe employers need to be blindfolded & ask to interview a range of people for a job. I wonder would the person chosen be the same person if they could see them. We need to start looking past colour, religion, disability and tattoos etc and see the inner person

I only have tattoo in places I can cover or show depending on situation. Lots of tattooists won't do tattoo on face or hands

Imnotcheap but how would you feel if you had a tattoo and you wasn't employed because they didn't like it, it could be anywhere I went for a job interview and was told I wouldn't fit in because I've got purple hair even tho I would have been great for that job they said would I change my hair colour I said no it's who i am

As long as it isn't vulgar/bad language in my opinion, it should have no bearing on someone being hired to do a job.

I have a fair few tattoos and am able to cover the majority of them if need be, but I've never had to.

I agree a face tattoo should not be a barrier to getting a job but also understand that there is a stereotype associated the face and neck tattoos.

I don't have any tatoos as they aren't personally for me but I have seen some that are very pretty. As long as the tattoo isn't of something vulgar or bad language then it shouldn't be a barrier. Unfortunately there tends to be a stereotype associated with people who have face and neck tattoos.

Personally I do think tattoos on the face are not the most sensible thing to do. Yes it's choice and you should be able to look how you want but people will judge and as this woman found can mean you won't get a job because of it. Those employing staff have the right to turn someone down if they feel they aren't giving the right impression for the company. Not saying it's right but I can see the whole picture

I have tattoos that can be covered up if I want to. But I don’t think it should ever stop you getting a job. Same as some people are put off by multiple facial piercings or ear stretching etc. its that persons way of showing their individuality and may have great meaning to them. I think manners are way more important than the way you look.

Whilst I dislike tattoos , I have no issues with people that decide to have them it's their choice . The issue I have with people claiming discrimination when something doesn't suit them , she chose to have the tattoos and be different knowing full well that many people would not find them tasteful and many older people in particular may find them intimidating .

In a way no.People should be judged on performance and not on how they look.I met a man out walking the other day who was covered in tattoos and dressed as dark as night. He also had an XL puppy that leapt all over me.He was so nice and apologetic and the doggy was just being a zealous youngster.Appearances are all too often more than deceptive.I suppose though it must be a bit intimidating for the timid and the uninitiated to be greeted front of house by tattooed and pierced faces. It doesn't sell on well unfortunately. MelissaLee1 She looks 100% unemployable. I have never seen anyone looking like her male or female working in a "proper" job. I blame the tattooist(s) for their sorts disfiguring their bodies.

The various tattooists are only interested in the money they can get off them and is probably filthy rich and laughing at them at the same time.

Never judge Its book by Its cover. It shouldn't make a difference whether they got a face tattoo or piercings. They are not there to showcase, they are there to do a job. And they talk about discrimination.

I remember reading years ago that sometimes an employer will employ a really pretty girl In front of house to drag the people In.

Just looked up how much it costs for a tattoo and a small one on the wrist is £120.Just imagine the cost of the full tattoo in the picture which would run into thousands of pounds.

SueWard some charge a lot more for a small tattoo it depends on the person my brother is covered from the neck down in them but because he goes to the same person for them the guy does them cheaper and uses him as a model for his work
