Woman Says She Won £350,000 of Prizes over the Years, is She Telling Porkies ?
In the News
Ok, she says she has been comping for 40 years or so , and says she has won prizes worth over £350,000
I read the list of things she has won like holidays and other prizes ands i fail to see how she managed to win that much
She says her biggest win was in 1995 on a quiz show Wheel Of Fortune and won a £20,000 car
I would like to know what car that was , £20,000 back in 1995 is one heck of a price for a car, unless it was a prestige sports car, and i dont think wheel of fortune were that generous
I won a car myself in 1994 from a drum draw where i used to work, but it was only a vauxhall astra worth about £7,500 at the time
These are normal prices of cars they tend to give away on these quiz shows
I have won my fair share of prizes over the years, holidays , mobile phones, even £3,000 on a free phone in and other smaller cash prizes and consider myself to be fairly lucky, but i have put in a lot of hours per day to achieve this
I would estimate my prizes in total to be in the £20,000 to £25.000 range , excluding the car as that was not an online competition
I think she has over exaggerated to the newspaper , especially as she says she only spends two hours a day comping
Unless she neglected to mention a lottery win ?
Jealous or worried T? Only kidding.Well only she knows I guess.Must've of stepped in something eh?
MelissaLee1 I have seen similar stories in the newspapers in the past of peoples successes and they tend to list most of the things they have won M
This one is so vague and the numbers just dont add up
Good luck to her if she got a good fee for the story though, more fool the sun for believing it
Of course it is possible to win huge prizes, there was one to win a bentley last year , but it was a paid entry via sms , i think it was 50p
So one or two wins that size could earn you a small fortune, but you wouldn't forget to mention it to the paper doing the story
telmel I think the sun would have a piccie of her in furs and stilettos next to a bentley if she had won one of those so yes perhaps a little exaggerrating going on here.
I was on a cruise a few years ago and got chatting to one couple. They had won their holiday and had won lots of competitions over the years.
Some people are just born lucky, unlike me who's never won anything lol odd pub raffle that's about it
It does seem like an exaggeration. It also makes you wonder how one person can win so much more than those who hardly ever win, or not at all.
She might be inflation adjusting the prize amounts possibly or maybe she has some plan to sell a book about how to win prizes so she needs to make it sound as amazing as possible.
telmel To be honest I do the reverse with bargains where I think I keep reducing the prices of what I paid. It's like I claim the real price at the beginning £80 but next year its £70 when I don't remember as well or maybe £60 the year after that and then maybe while sorting the original receipt is found and I see I actually paid more than I realised. I know sometimes it can get confusing as there could be generous cashback or other ways I reduced the price not shown on the receipt but I think I have the tendency to exaggerate bargains as time goes by.
telmel I actually saw an old episode of Wheel of Fortune on Challenge at my mother's house and they did actually have a £20k prize, it might have been spin to either get a car or £20k. A very generous prize for the time although I have to say the old Wheel of Fortune is a load of cr*p and utterly charmless quiz show. It has dated very badly where for me the old Bullseye episodes are still worth watching. Same could be said for the 'Weakest Link' which is also pretty terrible on Challenge. Tenable is another show which is slightly ruined by dull and un-interesting questions which often tend to be royalty or naff football questions. Great host and decent format but disappointing questions.
BonzoBanana Thanks for that B, i havent seen any old episodes recently , but if they were giving away cars at that value then it does add credibility to her story
I just wish she had listed more wins , i love to hear of people winning big prizes , it encourages others to carry on comping
telmel I didn't watch it properly it was a pretty naff show so I'm not sure if it was a £20k car or actually you spun the wheel to see whether you were playing for £20k or the car which looked much lower value than £20k. It was a Honda tiny 4x4 vehicle but more rounded to compete with the Suzuki Jimny of the time I guess. It really didn't look like it was worth £20k, more like £6k back then I would of thought. Actually I've just googled it and it was a Suzuki.
BonzoBanana A big coincidence there B, i used to own a suzuki jimny , but it was more recent than then , only a few years ago , i think the basic was around £10,000 to £11.000 , mine was second hand though
Probably like ‘successful gamblers’, boasting, and boosting winnings, whilst simultaneously ignoring loses. Most high value competitions these days have a cost involved in entering - phone or SMS entry. Maybe she entered lots of phone-in competitions like you get on late night tv and won a £500 holiday, conveniently forgetting that in order to win she phoned in 200 times on a Premium Rate number costing £4 a time! Maybe she also entered all those Omaze competitions to win a £10 Million Pound house but didn’t win. It just cost her another £300 each time to enter…
Maybe the newspaper told her to exaggerate her winnings to make the story more interesting N,
i suppose we will never know , unless shes a member of LD and reads this
