I sort of did but it wasn’t leap year. Wanted to move things on after being together for so many years. I just knew him and he would never be confident in doing it. It sort of just happened, no grand gestures or anything but we knew each other so well. This year will be 23rd anniversary.

JLouM ah that's lovely. I guess it can reach a stage where it just sort of happens, especially if you've known each other for years!.

Yes it's becoming normal now and it works for some people I don't believe in marriage myself but good luck to anyone who gets married

Leannexxx I am sure I have mentioned this before, but couples who don't marry MUST make a will or they are in danger of losing assets etc to the deceased's family or their own children.

Lynibis Oh yes I know this and I never know I might change my mind but it will only be for that reason deep down I don't see myself with anyone else it's just the whole marriage thing I feel like it would put pressure on us when we are good as we are

Leannexxx that's fair enough, I too did not marry my last partner so please know I am not judging, I just hope people are aware of pitfalls. Tbh we did a joint will as he had absolutely nothing and I was damned if he was getting my house! I had to give a percentage so I split 1%/99% but he got so much debt after our split they have put charges on my house as they want that 1% . It sounds trivial but I won't move because of all the hassle. They can't force a sale thank goodness!

I would never do the proposing as a woman. Maybe old school but I still think it is down to the man to propose.

eyeballkerry yes I am a traditionalist. I also feel if a man thinks you're good enough to keep house care for him and have his kids, you're also good enough to marry!

eyeballkerry Yes but what if you get past 30 and the question doesn’t pop? If you want to start family etc. Not that you have to marry these days, it’s still a choice. In my case I had different problems so didn’t get to have a family but still happily married.

JLouM Yes I agree, but us women have lots of clever ways of dropping hints and skirting around it lol.

Lynibis You sound very much me. Maybe it’s a woman thing but we are very good at dropping subtle hints and even sometimes my husband thinks it is his idea.

If you feel it's right then go for it. It shouldn't matter what sex you are, as long as it is for the right reason and you know the person loves you to 🫶🏼

I think if a woman is waiting for her boyfriend to propose so long, if she does and he declines, then she knows he's no intentions. Time to move on to someone who she deserves.

If it is something that the woman wants to do then they should. As long as it is for the right reasons then it shouldn't matter which partner is doing the proposing.

Yes they should instead of just staring and expecting to be proposed.

About time they did

There's never a do or don't. What suits a person, their relationship, their partner and their circumstances is up to them. I believe that individuals should do what makes them happy. All else is insignificant.

Me? My husband proposed after asking my Dad's permission. It worked for him, for me, for my parents and his!

LHP118 that's really nice, I love the asking the parents tradition, shame it has mostly died out.

Of course women should be able to propose to the love of their life but only do so if you know the reply. After all women are never wrong.

I do like to stick to traditions but in this day and age anything goes really.

I don't see why a woman can't propose if she really wanted too. But I myself wouldn't have the guts to do it. We spoke about marriage , kids and what we both wanted, and we were both on the same page .
