Would You Still Work at 98?

I would not I think 80 is enough but if you ere fit and in responsible. health is fine

Ivor is clearly a very fortunate person to be fit enough to work at that age; most people aren't! Unless, the people he works with carry him through??

Sadly it is people like him who give the government leave to keep increasing the pension age as they use him as an example of an 'average' 98 year old! Beware, as when you get older you could end up getting your state pension in your 70's - if there still is one!

Sir David Attenborough turned 98 on 8th May & is still working...

I think he will continue til he can no longer...

I probably won't even be around at the grand old age of 98, i'm 40 years off that and struggle to do jobs now .

I have noticed more people working when they should be retired. When people are working they go on about can’t wait to retire but when it comes to it they like the feeling of being needed.

Happy to work until my mind, body and soul can’t take it anymore. I’m guessing by that age the kind of job you’re doing isn’t stressful and keeps you going, both mentally and physically. No point wasting away

I think it depends on how fit and able you are. Whilst I love my job, I don't think I would be able to do it at 98. I doubt I will be around at 98 anyway.

Not in my job I won't. I love my job but it's so demanding and I'm broken from it now. It's hard physically and mentally. So if I do work it'll be an easier job

I think you need to be active to stay alive although ultimately will depend if you need the money in your retirement to survive as with prices going up, I can imagine we’re all going to working a lot longer. I’d love to finish at 60 but I think that’s a pipe dream nowadays unless you’re fortunate to have a really good pension

I wish, my body stopped working properly years ago and I'm 54. When I could no longer work as a legal secretary I took on voluntary work and then even had to give that up when I couldn't tell from one day to the next if I would be capable of going in. These days 'hard work' is things like getting my mobility scooter ready to take me to the shop. lol

If you are able to work until that age, good for them, probably the only thing keeping him going in life

If you are fit, able to and want to work from a mental health perspective then I see no problem. However, I do see moves ahead to make it more and more difficult to retire anywhere near 70 because people are chosing (or possibly due to cost of living crisis, or being forced) to work much later than they possibly should. The mind may be willing, but the body may not be the same sadly.

I suppose it depends what job your doing. If its a physically demanding job then you wouldn't be able to. But if it's working on a till in a shop as long as mentally your all with it then there's no reason why not.

I would if I was still fit and able to do what he does at that age. Unfortunately I am not even entitled to a pension yet as they put the age up, and am already worn out.

I'd like to keep working as long as I can but 98 is quite exceptional., I don't want to be working at the same place I am at now and will probable do a few more years up-to about 72 / 73, which will be when I decide to either find something less taxing if at all possible. Good Luck to Ivor I wish him well and am envious of his drive and resolve.

I suppose if he’s happy and enjoys his job then it makes sense. I wouldn’t mind doing some form of work for as long as i live but would have to be worthwhile in helping people

Definitely not. 65 is the max age and we all need time to recoup our body from the battering it takes working all those years. Plus it time to enjoy life , travel have experiences with thought worrying about going back to work . It our time then we have put enough into the state and there comes a cut of time for everything

I retired early and provided you keep yourself active, for example I do two separate lots of volunteering I think that's fine. The worst thing you can do is sit at home doing nothing.
