UPDATE Thursday 19th January
OK to confirm - The discount boost to 70% will start tomorrow, Friday 20th January, but it appears that this year the boost will be in-store only and may not be online.
Personally I'm not entirely convinced that Boots will only boost the discount to 70% in-store, as I can't see the commercial logic for not also running the discount boost on selected products online. However as I said in my first post it's worth noting that last year Boots only increased the discount to 70% on Christmas gifts and fragrance gift sets 'In-Store' on the start date (and the online discount remained at 50% off).

MSE Update, 1.40pm Wed 18 Jan - We've just received confirmation from Boots that its sale is boosting to up to 70% off in-stores from Fri 20 Jan.
UPDATE Wednesday 18th January 4.15am:
Boots website is still 'live' with no sign of the boost to 70%. I think it's safe to go back to bed!
UPDATE Wednesday 18th January 3am:
As the Boots website is still live at 3am with no holding page etc I think it's unlikely to be today folks. I'll keep monitoring for another hour or so just in case...Strong rumours now that it will start this Friday instead.

UPDATE 14th January:
It sounds like Boots senior management will make a decision on Monday 16th regarding the start date of the 70% off sale, but will still try to keep it hush hush 'til the last moment. My best guess is now Wednesday the 18th January.

UPDATE 11th January:
It’s almost 4.30am on Wednesday 11th and it looks like it’s not going to be today folks.
I expected the Boots website to be down for at least a couple of hours before the 70% off sale starts and that has not happened. MSE are reporting (quote) “Boots is keeping its cards close to its chest, but while it did confirm to us at 4pm on Tue 10 Jan it definitely won’t be boosting on Wed 11 Jan, it didn't deny it would boost at all.”
There is little doubt the 70% sale will start very soon though, the 70% off signs have been spotted printed on the reverse side of the 50% off point of sale materials! I think you can guess what the little bird is going to say to me....

UPDATE:
SOURCES SAY THE BOOTS 70% OFF SALE STARTS WEDNESDAY 11TH JANUARY... but a little bird (who is usually in the know) now insists it'll start next week!
I suggest adding items into your online basket now, ahead of the start date, so you are ready to checkout quickly when the Boots 70% sale actually starts online, probably very early on Wednesday morning. Keep a copy of it too, just in case your basket is emptied.
Last year Boots only increased the discount to 70% on Christmas gifts and fragrance gift sets 'In-Store' on the start date (the online discount remaining at 50% off). So you may want to grab what you can online at 70% off before the physical stores open, and also hot foot it into your local Boots store when the doors open.
Of course if you intend to be in-store first thing you can always check Boots.com/Sale first in the early hours to see whether there are many 70% discounts, if so, it's on!

The Boots January 70% Off Sale is very popular every year, with lots of unsold Christmas gifts etc at greatly reduced prices but the start date is always kept hush-hush beforehand by Boots.
The start date of the Boots 70% Off Sale in previous January's was:
15th January 2014 - A Wednesday
14th January 2015 - A Wednesday
13th January 2016 - A Wednesday
A good bet for the January 2017 Boots 70% Off Sale might be either:
a) Wednesday 11th January 2017, or
b) Wednesday 18th January 2017
As many sales started before Christmas in 2016, my personal bet is the 11th January. Watch this space!

I was reading the small print under the 1/2 price sale banner tidaytoday aand it said prices valid from 26/12/2016 to 03/01/2017. So coucould be this Wednesday?

In recent years the online sale has started roughly between 5am and 3am, getting earlier each year
