Introduction

Tesco Clubcard is essential for anyone who shops at Tesco, even if it's a supermarket you rarely visit. The aisles are littered with discounts only available if you use Tesco Clubcard. And, seeing as though Tesco Clubcard is free, plus takes less than 2-minutes to get, it's an instant money saver. In this guide we walk through how to get it and maximise the rewards.

How to Get Tesco Clubcard

  • Register for a Tesco account here
  • ✓ Check the box to join Clubcard (it's free)
  • Enter your details
  • The account will be created immediately
  • You will be given your Clubcard number

Important

  • You will be prompted to get the Tesco app
  • I recommend you get the app as this will contain a digital version of your Clubcard that you can use immediately.
  • If you do not want the Tesco app and prefer a plastic card you can order one here (and a key fob)

Get the Tesco App

When you have the Tesco app sign in with your details.

Then you need to authenticate your Clubcard.

  • Tap 'Clubcard' on the main menu
  • Follow the steps to authenticate your Clubcard such as receiving a code via text.
  • You will now have your Tesco Clubcard via your phone.

How to Use Your Tesco Clubcard

At checkout, you will need to open your phone (or get your plastic Clubcard ready), open the Tesco app, go to the Clubcard on the app, and present the QR code or barcode to the scanner at the till when prompted.

At self-service tills there may be a selection you need to make before scanning the Clubcard.

Points will then be awarded to your Tesco Clubcard.

What Are Tesco Clubcard Points Worth?

  • You collect 1 point for every £1 you spend in-store and online
    • 150 points = £1.50 voucher
    • This is equal to 1%
  • You collect 1 point for every £2 you spend at Tesco Fuel (petrol stations)

How to Increase The Value of Tesco Clubcard Points

You can enjoy up to 3x your Clubcard voucher value by spending them with Reward Partners.

These are brands partnered with Tesco Clubcard.

  • A £1.50 Tesco Clubcard voucher may be worth £4.50 via a Reward Partner.

There are over 100 Reward Partners. You can choose your reward within the Tesco app, select the amount in Clubcard vouchers you want to exchange, then place your order.

You get a voucher for the Reward Partner and it comes to the Tesco app and via email.

Tesco Reward Partners include:

  • Disney+
  • Cineworld
  • English Heritage
  • Tenpin
  • RHS
  • Hungry Horse
  • Pizza Express
  • Bella Italia
  • See full list of Tesco Reward Partners

IMPORTANT NOTE: Tesco has announced that from 14th June 2023, you will get 2x your Clubcard voucher value, rather than 3x.

For any Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner ordered until 13th June, Tesco has extended their validity from 6 months to 12 months. This means you can still take advantage of the 3x value, as long as you select the vouchers you want to exchange and place your order for the Reward Partner voucher before 13th June.

Clubcard Prices

You will see 'Clubcard Prices' across Tesco aisles. These are special prices exclusively for shoppers with Tesco Clubcard. Prices may be between 10 - 50% more expensive without Clubcard. I hesitate to say that Clubcard Prices are 'cheaper' because you should still compare supermarket prices. Clubcard Prices are the main benefit of Tesco Clubcard. If Tesco is your regular supermarket, you will save £100s with a Clubcard.

Notes from Tom

Tesco Clubcard has transformed over the years. It began as one of the first and best loyalty programmes in 1995. Booklets of printed coupons would arrive at your door on a regular basis. I used to love cutting them out.

Tesco Clubcard then got worse. The supermarket cut the value of the points you accrued and other supermarkets such as Sainsbury's (Nectar) looked more enticing. Clubcard wasn't very exciting. There have been ups and downs over the years including changes to the value of points and the Reward Partners available.

In 2022 Tesco introduced Clubcard Prices. Although it won't admit this, it increased prices in-store for those without a Clubcard and gave 'discounts' to those with a Clubcard. Most of these discounts were their original previous prices rather than new savings. Nevertheless, without a Clubcard, you now have to pay double for some products. This makes Clubcard a necessity for deal hunters.
