Aldi's Frozen Turkeys Soar in Price: Is Your Xmas Feast at Stake?
Hello Deal Hunters,
With Christmas just around the corner, here's an update on the cost of your festive centrepiece! If you've traditionally gone for the more pocket-friendly frozen turkey option, this might give you a jolt. This year, these frozen delights could set you back up to 20% more than last year!
Sean Poulter at The Daily Mail reported that the most significant price surge was observed in Aldi's Specially Selected turkey crown, jumping a whopping 20% - from £19.99 to £24.99. And, hold onto your wallets, because that's 30% more expensive than just two years ago.
Aldi seems to be leading this price hike parade, with their small Oakhurst whole British turkey (4kg) also showcasing a staggering price boost. Originally at £16.99, it's now 17.7% pricier than last year and a jaw-dropping 32.4% more expensive than in October 2021.
Why such a stark increase, you ask? The culprits seem to be the ever-increasing production costs, including wages, feed, and the current energy crisis. These have severely impacted the poultry sector, pushing the prices of our beloved turkeys upward.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of shopping community LatestDeals.co.uk, sums up the sentiment with his neutral take, "While it's unfortunate to witness the rise in turkey prices, especially for Aldi's range, understanding the underlying causes helps consumers make informed decisions during the festive season." Stay alert, Deal Hunters, and plan your festive budget wisely!
Aldi have been taking advantage of the inflation to push their prices way above where they should be,disgraceful behaviour from the no longer “low cost” retailer.
I totally agree. Some of the price rises are price goudging. One of the ones I am referring too is their mouthwash.I used to buy this last year for 49 pence. It is now 99 pence. This is more than double.I now buy from tesco which is 49 pence.
DianeCherrell Yeah I go in Aldi and there are lots of great value items but others are actually very uncompetitive. It doesn't pay to be loyal to one supermarket as they all have items they are either cheaper for or much better quality. I recently made a salad with Aldi's essential tuna in a tin. It was horrible mush, extremely low quality compared to other retailers. I won't be buying that again. It was no cheaper either.
