With rising costs making everyday life increasingly difficult, we can all benefit from saving any way we can. From groceries to days out, discounts and vouchers are always welcome. However, one savvy bargain hunter has taken money-saving to the next level by revealing he has saved a whopping £6000 on a new Mercedes.

The revelation came after Facebook user Nicky K posted to the Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains group saying: ‘I am eligible for a Blue Light card, just wandering (sic) are they worth getting? Is there a list of shops/restaurants I can get a discount please.’

Responses came in their droves - Beth H said: ‘I’ve had 20% off in Toby Carvery and Greene King. £3 off cinema tickets, 20% off JD.’ Linda B added: ‘I use mine all the time - got holiday discounts and discounts on gardening machinery. Food shopping at ASDA, restaurants etc.’

Paul C then revealed a particularly impressive saving, saying: ‘Saved over £6k on a car.’ Hannah C replied: ‘Wow which car manufacturers?’ Paul told her: ‘There are loads on there Hannah, mine was Mercedes.’

Hannah was amazed, saying: ‘Thanks I need to start looking soon & didn’t know that they had such good deals on cars.’ However, Jacqui A was skeptical, chipping in: ‘I asked at Mercedes’ garage, they said that [they] do not accept Blue Light.’

Paul cleared up the confusion, though: ‘The dealerships don’t, there are companies on the Blue Light website that do. Motorfinity and I think Defence Cars is one. They order direct from Mercedes and then you just pick it up at a dealership. I had to [travel] to pick mine up as not all dealerships will do it as they don’t get anything from it.’

Tom Church, Co-Founder of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘There are loads of people who qualify for the Blue Light Card, and it’s well worth grabbing one if you’re eligible - after all, you never know if you’ll be able to pick up a fantastic discount like Paul’s!

‘Those who qualify include ambulance service workers, Border Force officers, people working in cave rescue, prison service workers, traffic officers and many more. It’s worth checking out the Blue Light Card website for the full list.

‘Paul has grabbed an amazing deal by getting £6000 off his new Mercedes - and you can do it too. According to the official blog, Blue Light has partnered with select companies such as Motorfinity to offer some huge discounts on new vehicles.

‘When you go to the Motorfinity website, you’ll see that you could grab a deal such as £3,400 off a new Ford Puma Hatchback, nearly £7,000 off a new Audi A4 Saloon or £4,300 off a new Cupra Formentor Estate.

‘If you haven’t signed up for a Blue Light Card yet and you’re interested, navigate to the website and register for an account. You will need to provide ID or a recent payslip proving you’re eligible, plus make a payment of £4.99. Then you’ll be able to unlock the range of offers for two years. You’ll likely make the money back in savings right away, so I’d say it’s well worth it!’
