Experts have revealed that savvy shoppers can save over £3,000 across popular product categories in 2024 and have used their discount predictions to highlight the best and worst times to buy next year in one handy calendar:
Leading price comparison site, idealo.co.uk (which powers Latest Deals price comparison) has analysed the price history of over 70 household items over the last five years, from tech and fashion to white goods and children’s toys, to reveal what to buy in which month to bag the biggest savings.
With patience and careful planning, shoppers can find themselves saving up to 60% from January to December on anything from big ticket items to the everyday household product.
Katy Phillips, senior brand and communications manager for the UK at idealo explains further: “While people's motivations for shopping may differ, one thing remains certain– people are reluctant to paying over the odds for a product. Knowledge is key, and understanding the optimal months to make purchases empowers consumers to get the most value for their money.
“Seasonality heavily influences pricing strategies. For instance, March sees significant price inflation as the demand for BBQs begins to grow and, in May, we notice a similar trend with lawn mowers as garden prep gets underway for many.
“While Black Friday steals the spotlight as the overall cheapest shopping day of the year, retailers consistently roll out promotions on various items throughout the year, surprising consumers with opportunities for savings.”
The table below shows the biggest savings consumers can make each month on popular product categories from January to December.
