Energy Bills to Rise £17 in a "One-Off" To Save Energy Companies

Image

Deal Hunters,

While we're always on the prowl for the best deals and savings, sometimes external factors just don't play ball. UK's energy regulator is currently pondering over an increase to our energy bills – a move aimed at preventing companies from going under.

BBC News reported that the UK's energy watchdog is weighing up the option of introducing a single, one-off hike in energy bills. The proposed £17 increase adds to the rising costs we're all facing, and Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk is skeptical,

"Why should we have to bail out rip-off energy companies? In July 2023, British Gas reported record half year profits. Scottish Power and EDF also announced big profits. There seems to me to be a better solution on the table: Make profiteering energy companies like these pay."

"Plus, what's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear a 'one-off' fee? It's 'yeah, right'."

"The only long-term solution to high energy bills is to invest into plentiful renewal and nuclear energy sources with capped profits."

I always knew the Energy Bills Support Scheme wasn't what it appears to be. I could forecast the government would take it back one way or another. The government should be forcing British Gas and the rest to pay more taxes out of their vast profit. But it will never happen, so their is no point in being annoyed.

I'm not paying an extra £17 pound to stop energy companies from going bust .let them go bust and let the good energy companies take over .I'm with a good energy company that hasn't ripped me off not like British gas. EDF. Southern electric. Scottish Power and the rest of them rip off merchants. Making a profit off us and then bragging about it in the news paper's scum bags but as they say karma will come for you ha ha 😂

Nothing like this in the news surprises me anymore. Would it not be better to look at all the energy companies finances and those companies who have made a profit (whether it's compared to last year or not) be told not to charge this one off payment?

Why pay a £17 one off payment to these companies what's the profit's for there making not millions now but billions if anything these rip off companies should scrap the standing charge's.

Use some of the profits instead of making the poor poorer and the rich richer.

Energy companies should never have been privitised, along with water and transport either for that matter. They're run on profit for shareholders not for users.

The energy companies are making big profits especially after increasing the daily charges. If any companies are likely to go under they should approach the government for help.
