If your kid is obsessed with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep, Mr Potato Head and the rest of the Toy Story gang, you’ll definitely be inspired by this budget transformation.
Lorraine Kafanke, 37, a mum of two from Cumbria, was asked to design a bedroom based around Toy Story for a family friend.
Using a series of clever money-saving tricks, Lorraine managed to pull off the project for £150.
Lorraine’s thrifty hacks included upcycling a free unit from a selling site and making canvas prints from a duvet cover.
Lorraine told money-saving Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK: “I’ve always had a passion for interior design and anything creative.
“My job has always been a singer but I’m just starting my own business building up my confidence and doing things in my own home and for family and friends.
“I'm just starting to create my own interior design and decorating business locally.
“I love transforming old furniture to save money and make them new.
“I have ideas in my head for room designs that I love putting into practice and then seeing my ideas come together and creating beautiful spaces for others to enjoy.
"I did this Toy Story room for my dad's best friend.
“He wanted the spare room to suit his grandsons, and my brief was Toy Story-tastic.
"I did it all on a budget of £150.
“The wallpaper was Wilko to create the theme of Andy’s room.
“The unit was free off a selling site which I painted up in the colours to suit the theme.
“The canvas prints I made from a single duvet cover which I stapled to plain white canvases.
“The little army men I dotted around the room using string to hang so they look as though they are in battle and they were £1 a bag from Poundland.
"The rest is pretty much just painting in colours to suit the theme.
“The Toy Story toys were bought off a selling site and cost £20 for all the characters.
“It took me three days to create and finish the look which was well-received by his grandsons!
“Their reaction was ‘wow, this is my very own Toy Story room!’.
“It was so lovely to see their reaction when they saw the space I had made for them.
“The room took me four days.
“The walls were painted white using Johnstone's, the wallpaper was from Wilko, and I painted the built-in unit with Johnstone's red gloss.
“I got the unit for free so I wallpapered the fronts and painted the top red to tie the theme together.
“All accessories were from local high street stores, mainly Wilko and B&M.
“The total cost was around £150.
“For kids’ rooms, you don’t always need to go buy the most expensive items or furniture to create a specific look.
“Take your brief and look at colours and designs that can change a space without having to buy the most expensive things on the shelf.
“Just by using colour, your theme can change a space for next to no cost. I do have a great eye for a bargain!”
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “Many parents’ hearts sink when their kids ask for a room upgrade, as renovations can mean serious money!
“But Lorraine’s Toy Story transformation proves you really don’t need to spend a fortune to achieve an amazing new look.
“By using Wilko wallpaper, upcycling a free unit from a selling site and making canvas prints from a duvet cover, which is genius, Lorraine has kept costs down while staying faithful to one of the best kids’ movies ever!"
