If you’re desperately searching for a home project to keep you busy during the pandemic, take inspiration from this creative mum.
Chloe Van Crugten, 31, a PE teacher from Dorset, transformed her daughter’s room into a pink girly haven under lockdown - and it cost less than £50.
Chloe, who lives with her partner Rich, stepson Dillan and baby girl Isla, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "I came up with the idea because we have a lovely big garden with a cherry tree and lots of butterflies visit. I saw the 3D butterflies at an absolute bargain price on Amazon for £6.50.
"I had the idea to use the yellow version of the popular frog tape. I wanted to create what I hoped would look like a trellis fence. I chose this particular tape because the wall had recently been painted with white emulsion.
"I used three rolls of tape which cost £16.50. My partner helped me lay the tape. We accurately measured the spaces and laid the tape in full lengths which helped to keep the lines straight.
"I already had white matt emulsion so I just bought some pink matt emulsion that I mixed together myself for the different shades of pink. I drew the design on paper first and coloured it with pencils to make sure I was happy with the fade. I used Dulux trade vinyl matt emulsion.
"The paint cost £25 and the butterflies £6.50 so the total cost was £47.50. Everything was bought via click and collect or with home delivery so social distancing was fully adhered to.”
Chloe is delighted with how the project has turned out, and says that home DIY is the ideal distraction to get stuck into during lockdown.
"I think projects like this give you something to focus on and a sense of achievement during this lockdown,” she adds. "I was amazed and very pleased with the reaction when I posted it online.
"I would advise anyone who wants to try to make sure the wall is well prepped and that they remove the tape when the paint is wet for best results.”
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “Anyone who is bored out of their mind at home in lockdown should take a leaf out of Chloe’s book.
“This transformation looks amazing, and best of all, it really doesn’t cost the earth!
