According to Finder, the average Brit will spend £596 on Christmas presents this year, a sharp increase from the average of £430 in 2022.
We asked deal expert and Co-founder of money saving community Latestdeals.co.uk his top tips to save on gifting, whilst still giving quality presents.
1) DIY Festive Hampers
“Hampers are always a nice present idea, and you can save big by putting one together yourself, rather than buying one from a shop. Luxury hampers from Fortnum & Mason can cost as much as £6,000, but I’ve put together under £10 hampers in the past.
“If you’ve got a hamper at home you can use, great. If not, rather than buying one, you can use a cardboard box and fill it with your goodies.
“For the contents of the hamper, look for deals on food, candles, socks and more, depending on who you’re gifting it to. Aldi does fantastic food and alcohol dupes, including a Ballycastle Classic Country Cream dupe for Baileys”.
2) Black Friday App
“If you’re on a budget, Black Friday is a great time to get your Christmas shopping done. Most major retailers will have deals on, and you can bag some real bargains.
“You can download a Black Friday app to see all the best deals as they drop. Already, early deals have started at Argos, ASDA George, Dunelm, Nike and more. If you download the app, you’ll be the first to know about them”.
3) Aldi Middle Aisle
“As a bargain hunter, I often turn to Aldi’s middle aisle when I’m looking for gifts. In the months leading up to Christmas, there’s plenty of gifting ideas to choose from, with prices from under £1.
“For example, upcoming Special Buys include fantastic gift ideas such as Kids Craft Kits, ColorWOW and Kylie beauty dupes, Ugg slipper dupes, Disney Stitch Flopsies toys and more”.
4) £1 Stocking Fillers
“Stockings and Christmas Eve boxes are a nice treat for kids, but they can really add up if you’re not careful.
“For my son’s stocking, I look for gifts that are £1 or less. This year, I’ve found Aldi Chocolate Coins for 85p, a Mini Gingerbread House from B&M for £1 and a Pack of 5 Bath Crayons for £1 at Poundland.
“If you start hunting early at B&M, Poundland, Primark, Aldi, Home Bargains and more, you can find a great selection of stocking fillers for £1 or less”.
5) Get Sentimental
“If money’s tight, sentimental gifts are a great way of showing you care, without breaking the bank.
“For example, you can find photo frames on Amazon for as little as £3, and photo prints from Boots for as little as 18p. If you’re on a budget, homemade and sentimental gifts like this can be a great option”.
6) Don’t Check Out!
“If you’re doing your Christmas shopping online, don’t check out straightaway. Check for any extra money off codes that may be available.
“For shoppers on a computer, download the Latest Deals Browser Extension to see all the available codes for the retailer you’re looking at.
“It can also be a good idea to leave items in your basket and not check out immediately if you’re logged in to your account. Often, retailers will send you extra 10% off codes to encourage you to go back and complete the purchase”.
Tom finished by adding, “You don’t need to spend a fortune to give a fantastic Christmas gift, and if you’re a savvy shopper you can find deals and bargains, especially over the Black Friday period”.
