- Cashback apps are increasingly popular with bargain shoppers
- One deal hunter picked up £60 just for switching phone provider
- Another has picked up over £1300 via TopCashback
- A savvy shopper revealed an incognito trick for the best cashback results
Cashback apps have been around for a while now, with brands such as Shopmium, TopCashback and CheckoutSmart giving deal hunters some extra bang for their buck.
Recently, savvy shoppers from the Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains Group have shared their tricks for getting incredible savings with the smartphone apps.
Deal hunter Vanessa revealed the best way to use Shopmium: ‘You choose what shop you’re heading to and I usually write out a little list of all the offers I want to redeem and exactly what products they are. As soon as I get home I scan my receipt and eligible products and cashback gets returned to my bank account super easy.’
Meanwhile, Victoria shared her success with some other cashback services: ‘I've had over £1300 from TopCashback. I also use Airtime Rewards - just need to link bank card and it just adds it, then redeem off phone bill.’
Sarah also managed to pick up some cash with little effort: ‘When I changed my mobile company over to 3 I checked and for new customers it was £60 cashback. Only downside is waiting ages for the purchase to track but can't grumble at free money.’
Meanwhile, David shared a trick he uses with cashback companies: ‘I use Quidco, Topcashback and Shops Away. Don't use any discount codes in combination with the cashback and use in an incognito window for best results.’
Fellow shopper Dawid asked: ‘What does incognito do for best results?’ David replied: ‘The cashback is tracked through cookies and if you've searched for an item before buying it sometimes the cookies don't track correctly, so I always search for the item then when find where I want to buy it from then go through cashback in an incognito window.’
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘Cashback sites are a great way to make your money stretch that little bit further. Over time, you can get results like Victoria and save over £1000. If you pick TopCashback, it’s as simple as searching for a retailer, clicking on the pick ‘Get Cashback’ button and then shopping through the new tab which is opened. Building up a habit of checking sites like this for cashback is a great way to see what you can get in return for making a purchase.
‘It’s always worth keeping an eye out for special deals like the one Sarah picked up by changing mobile phone providers. There are regular cash incentives out there for switching a provider, including current accounts, energy providers and mortgages.
‘Just be sure to check that the deal is right for you - that cashback will be nice in the short term, but you don’t want to realise you’ve switched to a provider which doesn’t work for you in the long run.’
