Buying New Year’s Eve party nibbles and wine can be expensive if you pick up the first items you find, but by shopping smartly you can pick up some incredible bargains. Tom Church, Co-Founder of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘I was surprised to find that supermarkets people associate with higher budgets, such as Waitrose and Ocado, actually have some offers which result in larger savings.

‘The key is to time your shopping right - by making the most of clearance sales now, the places budget shoppers may avoid could actually be getting them a better deal. These shops are providing impressive reductions on high-end wine, champagne and food which will enable you to have a great NYE party!

‘I found some great deals from both the higher-end supermarkets and the regular high-street favourites. However, I was most impressed with a £107 saving from the least likely suspect, which is why I went with this shop for my New Year’s supplies and avoided the others.’

Best Ocado Deals - Save Over £100 With Christmas Clearance Bargains

Image

While you may associate Ocado with a higher shopping bill, that doesn’t have to be the case if you are shopping smartly over the festive period. I am always an advocate for being disloyal and never shopping in the same place if it means you can get a better deal elsewhere. This is a prime example, as Ocado is running a Christmas clearance right now with some great deals.

For example, they are offering 3 Fish Roast, Salmon, Haddock & Cod reduced to £16 from £32. This would be a great NYE meal. As an alternative, why not get the 2 Dressed Lobster Halves which are now £17.50 instead of £35?

There are also nibbles, such as their 12 Sticky Asian Style Chicken Lollipops reduced to £3.75 from £7.50. You can add to the table with 12 Mini Chicken Kievs Frozen, half price at £2.50 instead of £5. Plus there’s a Luxury King Prawn Platter for £12.50 instead of £25.

For dessert, you can go for Rodney the Reindeer Baked Alaska Frozen, £7 instead of £14, or The Carved Angel Christmas Pudding, £6 instead of £12.

There is also a great beer, wine and spirits sale on right now. My top picks include the Nyetimber Rose NV 75cl, £30 instead of £40, plus the G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge Champagne NV 75cl, £26 reduced from £38. My favourite bargain, though, was the Charles Lafitte Champagne Grande Cuvee Brute NV 75cl, half price at £20 instead of £40. The total savings if you were to get every item here would be a whopping £107.25!

Best Waitrose Deals - Save £56 With 4 For 3 Festive Nibbles

Image

If you head into Waitrose for your NYE shopping you’ll find a 4 for 3 offer on party food. You get the cheapest item for free, and you can take advantage of this deal to make a bigger saving. Many of these items are £7, so you can get one for free and save £7. For example, you can pick up the 10 King Prawn Crispy Lollipops, 12 Savoury Pie Selection, 12 Festive Vol Au Vents and 10 Spicy King Prawn Selection. They’re all £7 each and you’ll pay £21 instead of £28.

There are also some impressive deals in the alcohol section. I noticed some insane reductions - for example, the Laurent-Perrier Brut NV Champagne 75cl is £10 off, £34.99 instead of £44.99. Plus, the Gosset Grande Reserve Champagne Brut 75cl is £40 reduced from £50.

Similarly, the Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 75cl is £11 off - £45 instead of £56. However, the deal I was most impressed with is the Laurent-Perrier La Cuvee Champagne Brut NV 150cl, reduced by a whopping £18 to £71.99 from £89.99. Altogether, if you were to buy these offers you would save a massive £56.

Best ASDA Deals - Save £40 On Champagne and Snack Platters

ASDA is also doing an alcohol deal - mix and match any 3 for £21 on beer. To get the most out of this offer, I recommend going for the Kronenbourg, Brewdog Lost Planet and Brewdog Lost Lager options. These cost the most, at £11 per pack, so you’ll be paying £21 for beers that would be £33 without the offer - saving £12!

They are also doing a 1/3 off deal for selected champagne, sparkling and classic wines. The best deals I found were the Louvel Fontaine Champagne Brut 75cl, reduced to £9.99 from £18, the ASDA Extra Special Louis Bernard Champagne Vintage Brut 75cl reduced to £17.33 from £26 and the ASDA Extra Special Chateauneuf-du-Pape 75cl reduced from £16 to £9.99.

When it comes to food, there is a lot of scope to make some great savings. ASDA is also doing a 3 for 2 offer on party nibbles, but be sure to make note of the difference between prices. For example, you could pick up their 10 Sweet Chilli Butterfly Prawns for £3.50 or their 40 Piece King Prawn Selection for £6.50. That’s a difference of £3, so it makes sense to choose wisely.

To save the most money, I recommend getting that 40 Piece selection, the Chicken Platter - also priced at £6.50 - and the Moreish Party Snack Platter. That way you’re saving £5, essentially getting the snack platter for free! If you got all of these offers, you’d be saving a grand total of £39.67 - that’s basically £40.

Best Tesco Clubcard Deals - Save £36 On Wine and Prawn Selections

Image

Anyone who shops in Tesco knows there are some amazing savings to be made if you use your Clubcard. There are loads of deals on wine and champagne right now, but I recommend looking online before going in-store if you want to get the most bang for your buck.

That’s because, while there are many reductions if you’ve got a Clubcard, some reductions are much bigger than others. I did some hunting online to find the best offers - for example, this Vineyards Mulled Wine 2.25l is usually £9 but it’s just £5.50 with Clubcard. That’s almost half price!

Plus, this Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec 75cl is £6 off with a Clubcard - £16 reduced to £10. Considering many deals only knock a couple of pounds off, I think this is a great choice. But by far the best offer I found was for the Lanson Le Black Label Brut 75cl and the Piper Heidsieck Brut 75cl - these are £36, but you get £11 off with Clubcard, reducing them to just £25 each. Snap up these deals while you can!

Plus there’s a 3 for 2 deal on party food right now, where you can get all kinds of nibbles to fill the table for your NYE party. From mini beef Yorkshire puddings to breaded butterfly prawns, prices start from just £3.50.

To get the best value for money, I recommend buying three of the most expensive items. For example, picking up Tesco Finest 8 Whipped Feta Samosas 264g, Tesco Finest 10 Breaded Butterfly Prawn Selection 160g and Tesco Finest 12 Chicken & Chorizo Paella Bites 280g. These items cost £5.50, £5.50 and £4.50 respectively, so you’d get the last item free and save the most money. If you got all of the above deals, you’d be saving an impressive £36.
