DWP Christmas Bonus: The Bank Statement Code to Watch for This December
- DWP will issue a £10 Christmas bonus to millions receiving qualifying benefits in December.
- The payment appears as "DWP XB" in bank accounts, automatically added with no action required.
- Eligible recipients include State Pension claimants, PIP, Carer’s Allowance, and more.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is set to issue its annual £10 Christmas bonus to millions of people on qualifying benefits this December. The payment, while modest, has been consistent since it was introduced in 1972, except for a temporary increase to £70 in 2008 during the financial crisis.
Those eligible should look for "DWP XB" on their bank statements when the bonus arrives. The payment is automatic and tax-free, meaning no claims are necessary, and it won’t affect regular benefits. Recipients of qualifying benefits, including Adult Disability Payment, State Pension, and Personal Independence Payment, will receive this bonus if they meet certain residency conditions during the first full week of December, the "qualifying week."
Levi Winchester reported in The Mirror that the bonus has sometimes been criticised for its low value, as it hasn’t seen a permanent increase in over 50 years. Still, the payment aims to provide a small seasonal boost to those in receipt of certain benefits.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, says, “While the amount might seem small, it’s one of those little perks that can help with extra holiday costs. It’s a reminder to check if you’re receiving all the support you’re entitled to during this busy season."
