The 30-year-old Emerald Isle whiskey has set a new world record as the most expensive bottle ever sold, fetching £2.2 million. The sale eclipses the previous record set by a Macallan 1926, which was sold for £79,000 less. This remarkable event marks a significant milestone in the luxury whiskey market.
US collector Mike Daley, who purchased the bottle from The Craft Irish Whiskey Co., expressed his enthusiasm for luxury Irish whiskey, which he believes is on the rise and will soon match the prestige of luxury Scotch. The Emerald Isle's value is enhanced by its lavish packaging, which includes a walnut case, a Fabergé egg containing an emerald, a custom timepiece, and a pair of Cohiba cigars. These luxurious additions partly explain the bottle's high price.
Stephanie Chase at 25Money reported that despite critics attributing the high value to the whiskey's extravagant packaging, The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. countered by pointing out that the value of The Macallan 1926 was also boosted by its unique Valerio Adami-designed label. Jay Bradley, the founder of the distillery, expressed his pride in this achievement and hinted at more exciting developments in the future.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "This record-breaking sale not only highlights the growing prestige of Irish whiskey in the luxury spirits market but also reflects the broader trend of collectors investing in unique and high-value items. It's a significant moment for the whiskey industry."
