Kids & Vegans Love £1.79 Aldi Dupes - But Bargain Hunters Slam Them

  • Bargain hunters from Latest Deals have had a mixed reaction to the sweet treats
  • Plenty of people said they weren’t a fan, slamming the lack of filling and taste
  • However kids have been loving them and they’re also vegan friendly, unlike the originals

Aldi is known for bringing out cheaper dupes of popular products, and the latest one to hit UK supermarkets is their version of Pop Tarts - known as Top Twists.

The sweet treats have provoked a mixed response in the deal hunter community, with members of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk debating them on the Extreme Couponing & Bargains Group.

Deal hunter Samantha G posted a photo of the products in her local Aldi, saying: ‘I found the dupe pop tarts! At £1.79 a box, it’s a great cheaper swap from the brand ones.’

However, it hasn’t been the adults enjoying the snacks. Margaret W said: ‘I bought these on a whim but I found them very dry.’ Sian H added: ‘I was so sad as I love all Aldi dupes…these are so different unfortunately.’

SJ Lou wasn’t a fan of the products: ‘They taste nasty,’ she said, adding a vomit emoji. Emma L chimed in: ‘I bought them a couple of weeks ago and sadly not a fan - love Aldi and their dupes but this one wasn’t the best!’

Cheryl B commented: ‘Not enough filling. Stick with the real deal or won’t bother I’m afraid.’ Stephanie T added: ‘Didn’t like them, not much taste. I’ll stick to the original version.’

However, parents have been saying their kids are tucking into the new Top Twists.

Angela A said: ‘Our kids love them, so will not be buying the branded ones anymore.’ Stacey V added: ‘My kids absolutely love these!

Steph H said: ‘Got these for my son - he loves them, no difference.’ Jessie D added: ‘My kids liked them, they are used to the originals so saves me a pound!’

There is one plus point about the tarts, though, besides the price. Maryam R asked if they are suitable for vegetarians, and Lilly P replied: ‘They’re vegan.’

Maryan said: ‘That’s great thanks. I wasted £2.79 on the original pop tarts only to realise they had beef gelatine in so they went straight in the bin.’

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘These Aldi dupes are well worth a try - you can’t ignore that difference in price!

'They may not be for everyone, but if you end up liking them you’ll save plenty of money over time if you get these instead of the originals. Just make sure you don’t scoff the whole box in one go.’
