If Star Wars is your favourite movie franchise, then get your paintbrush and Amazon account ready because you're going to want to copy this bedroom transformation.

Karen Robinson, 45, from Peterlee, County Durham, wanted to create a Star Wars bedroom for her nine-year-old son Ethan.

Karen, a mum of three boys and a photographer, used bargain materials such as flooring from B&Q and IKEA units to create the look on a budget.

Karen told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: “My nine year old son wanted a Star Wars-themed bedroom as he is a big fan of the films.

“With my creative imagination I got some ideas from browsing.

"I saw Death Star shelving for sale but it cost a lot of money so I asked my husband if he could make it instead.

"We got the MDF and borrowed some tools from my dad. When he started with the project, lights were added so the cost was around £50 with lights.

“We bought a mural for £79 from Amazon, furniture units including the wardrobe for £200 from IKEA, grey ash flooring from B&Q for £80 and we also picked up accessories from Amazon such as the pictures, rug, wall sticker, bedding set and lamps.”

Karen says she is delighted with how the Star Wars room turned out, and her son Ethan is even happier.

“The total cost of the room was roughly £496,” Karen adds. “I’d advise people to shop about price wise and try do a lot yourself if you can be creative with designing and look at some ideas before creating the theme. I just created as I went along.

“He is over the moon with the finished look! The LED mood strip lighting helps my son sleep as he always used to have to fall asleep with the main light on, so it's such a good idea if anyone has children afraid of the dark.

“We are just so proud of the finished results and have an extremely happy little boy!"

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, says: “May the force be with you! This Star Wars themed room looks so professionally done, I can’t believe Karen and her husband managed to pull it all together themselves for under £500.

"It just shows what some DIY skills and a few key ingredients from Amazon, B&Q and IKEA can do for a bedroom transformation!"
