Mum Recreates Pricey £1,200 Crittall Doors Herself For Just £10 - Here’s How
- Lorraine Kafanke, 37, fell in love with made-to-measure crittall doors which cost £1,200
- Using paint and electrical tape, Lorraine created a fantastic dupe of the pricey doors
- Her transformation cost less than £10
We all know the feeling of falling in love with something for our home, only to find it’s way out of our budget.
And when Lorraine Kafanke, 37, a singer and mum of two from Cumbria, found out the beautiful crittall doors she wanted were £1,200, she decided to make them herself.
Using paint and electrical tape, Lorraine created a fantastic dupe of the pricey doors for less than £10.
Lorraine told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "I came up with the idea when I saw some doors online I really wanted but couldn’t afford.
"I thought 'why not try and create the look myself on a much cheaper scale?’
"I hated the doors before.
“They didn’t match the style or look I was going for but we were gifted them for free.
"I just used electrical tape, which cost 79p, and measured out four equal sections to create a glass panel look.
“I wasn’t sure the tape would work but it’s easily removed if the look didn’t suit.
“It was a little tricky getting the tape straight but a few attempts and I was happy!
"I used Johnstones matt black gloss paint for the wood at £8.99 a tin doing two thin coats.
"The process took about three days because of the drying time between coats.
"I also masked up the glass to get a nice neat finish with the paint and gave the glass a really good clean before applying the black tape.
“I’m so pleased with how they’ve turned out.
"I love doing things on a budget so it was very satisfying to create a look for such small cost and effort.
“I saved well over £1,000: the cost of the doors I had wanted was £1,200, and I managed to create them for less than £10.
"It gives me a real buzz turning unwanted things into something new.
“I love giving things a fresh new look.
"I’ve always been crazy about interior design and creating looks I visualise in my head.
"I love making old things look new to save them from landfill and I’m willing to give anything a try.
“I am just in the process of setting up my own interior design and decorating business.
“I have a page on Facebook sharing all my ideas and transformations, which is called LK Home Inspo.
"I love to inspire people to create something amazing on a very small budget!”
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “Spending over £1,000 on doors seems like a lot of money, so hats off to Lorraine for managing to get the doors of her dreams at a tiny fraction of the price!
“Her doors look modern, cool and stylish - and cost just £10. Genius!"
