Everyone wants their bedroom to be a relaxing space they can return to at the end of a long day, but getting a co-ordinated and comfortable look can often be expensive, putting many people off. However, one savvy DIYer has created a calming Feng Shui bedroom on a budget by shopping smartly at Argos, IKEA and Pepco.

Anna Bielna, 38 from Blackpool who is a naturopath and YouTuber sharing on Instagram as Anna’s Feng Shui, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: ‘I love Feng Shui and I wanted to create a calming, cozy atmosphere with neutral colours in my bedroom with a retro vibe and something modern at the same time.

‘When I moved into the house it was empty with bare floors and I had to buy furniture for all of the rooms, plus all the kitchen appliances. I knew my spending could easily get out of control so I was determined to do my research and create a beautiful space on a budget, applying my own designs and following the principles of Feng Shui.

‘I was careful to find furniture that was a good price online. I knew I wanted a retro vibe so that meant furniture with legs, and I wanted to have a minimalist grey color palette with touches of natural wood for the room. I wanted to get a chest of drawers, a tall boy and a bedside table and I found that Argos was the best option.

‘I browsed their soft line furniture range and picked up a chest of drawers for £250. These are really heavy duty, with eight drawers, and they can handle a lot of stuff. I was looking on designer sites initially when I was researching the vibe I wanted and the average price was £800 so I got a good price with this one.

‘The tall boy was £130 and sits nicely in the corner of my room. I would have had to pay around £450 on average if I got a similar design elsewhere so I was pleased with the bargain here. I also got a bedside table with three drawers for £90, and this was an average price but it matches the other furniture in the range. I had to wait a long time for everything to be delivered but when it finally arrived I was so happy.

‘I got some grey star curtains for £15 on eBay, and these were much cheaper than I found elsewhere as other pricing was £30 or £40 on average. I then picked up a set of white tables from Amazon for £35.99 and a stool from Aldi for £14.99 which I love. I also got some supplies from IKEA - for example, the shelf by my bed was just £15, and I got my mattress from there too. I wanted a cotton mattress and I managed to find one for just £99. It’s very comfortable so excellent value for money.

‘I was lucky to find a radiator cover on eBay for just £50. I have a large radiator and other customised ones I found online were £150 on average, so I saved a decent amount of money. It has the same theme I have been going for, grey with wooden panelling along the top. The cushions on my bed were also a bargain as they are from Pepco and I only paid £5 each.

'I added a pop of colour to the room by purchasing some plants. I got them from B&Q and Lidl, only buying them when they were on sale. The large ones cost around £20 on average and the smaller ones were between £5 and £10 each.

‘The best bargain was the floor. I paid a really low price compared to the flooring sold in B&Q or Wickes. I got 8mm laminate flooring in the shade Grey Oak from UK Flooring Direct for £10.99 per metre squared, which is about half the price I found in other online stores. It’s much cheaper if you buy flooring directly from the floor factory. I purchased 20 square metres and it cost me just under £220.

‘To save even more money, my friend laid the flooring for me for free. They also installed the radiator cover. I had looked up some quotes online and the cheapest I found was £150 per day, so this meant I could avoid paying out for a professional. I am really happy with the result as it matches my minimalist theme and is both comfortable and relaxing.’

As the photos show, Anna’s floor looks sleek and it will not show any imperfections which may be present underneath. Nice work!’
