If your furniture has seen better days but you can’t afford to splurge on new pieces, get inspired by this ultra-affordable hack.
Carmen Wilkes, 48, a married mum of three from Cornwall, wanted a new sofa suite, but didn’t want to blow the budget on brand new furniture.
Instead, she decided to use a £20 product from Amazon to dye her battered old sofas.
The result has given her a brand new-looking stylish grey sofa set for a fraction of the price.
Carmen told money-saving Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK: "I came up with the idea after seeing it on Facebook.
"I purchased three bottles of dye from Amazon at £19.99 a bottle.
"I was very hesitant about doing it so waited probably six months before starting!
“For the larger sofa, I did two coats with a sponge then the third coat I did with a gloss roller which gave really good coverage.
“I had to let each coat dry first but you can speed the process up by using a hairdryer.
“For the second sofa I went straight in with a small gloss roller and it only required two coats.
"It took me two days in total to do as I wanted to make sure that it was dried completely between coats.
“Doing this has saved me so much on buying a new sofa.
“The total cost was £60 as opposed to over £1,000 for a new suite!
"I am over the moon with the results and am completely blown away by the response I have had from it.
"I hope this will encourage others who are a bit worried about doing theirs to now go ahead and do it.
"This is perfect for anyone who has changed colour scheme and doesn’t want to or can’t afford to purchase a new suite.
“My dog has jumped on and off the sofa since doing it and hasn’t left any marks so hopefully it’s pet-proof too!
"And another good thing is if I change colour scheme I could buy a different colour and redo to match.
"I am over the moon with the results.
“It really does look like a new sofa, and it definitely saved me buying a new one!”

“Carmen’s idea is genius: she’s basically got a brand new sofa set for £60 as opposed to £1,000!
“Her sofas look as good as new - and as she says, it’s so easy to change them up whenever she feels like it.”
