Amazon Announces Big Change To Prime Membership & It's Bad News For Shoppers
Attention, Deal Hunters!
Amazon's shaking things up and not in the money-saving way we love. In just under two weeks, some Amazon Prime members will be faced with a new delivery charge for same-day deliveries.
Levi Winchester at The Mirror reported that from September 18, if your same-day delivery order is below £20, you'll need to cough up an additional £1.99. A surprising twist, considering that till now, all Prime-tagged items, if ordered before midday, could get to you by 10pm without any added charge.
The silver lining is, it doesn’t affect everyone. If you're not a Prime member, your charge remains the sturdy £5.99. Also, if your order's over £20, you're in the clear. And if you're thinking about the annual Prime membership fee (£8.99/month or £95/year) weighing heavy on your pocket with this added charge, there’s an option. You can cancel your Prime membership without any penalty. Those who haven't used any Prime services might even snag a full refund. Partial refunds could be on the table for some, but if you've been jamming to Prime Music, watching Prime Video, or enjoying Prime Gaming, refunds might be off the table.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of shopping community LatestDeals.co.uk, says, "It's crucial for consumers to stay informed and assess whether the Amazon Prime membership still offers value for their individual needs."
Does that mean that with Prime membership you can still get your order under £20 delivered free, just not on the same day?
When I looked on prime, it was free delivery for orders over £25, not £20. That's for anyone without prime membership.
Amazon has gone to the dogs. Most of the goods available online can be purchased from Home Bargains and B&M for much less. For example a shopping trolley was selling for £24.99 and Home bargain was selling the same brand, size, etc for £12.99.
Even with Prime it's 50/50 if I get my items on the date they state on the order. When I make a point their customer service team says it won't happen again but it does. They are too big for their own good now! And yes they are not the cheapest anymore.
