NEXT to Buy Fat Face Clothing Stores for £100m

Next, the FTSE-100 clothing behemoth, is just a step away from sealing the deal on FatFace for a sum crossing the £100m mark. This isn't just a random shopping spree; this acquisition further cements Next's dominance in the high street fashion sector.

Sky News's report highlighted the completion phase of this acquisition, which comes after FatFace's shift in ownership to its lenders a mere three years ago. Sky News reported that an official announcement might be just around the corner.

This is not the first time Next has gone on a shopping spree. Post-pandemic, they've expanded their portfolio by acquiring brands like Reiss, Made.com, Cath Kidston, and JoJo Maman Bebe. They're not just buying; partnerships have been the name of the game too, with ties to Victoria's Secret and GAP.

The backstory of FatFace is intriguing. Founded in 1988 by Tim Slade and Jules Leaver, it started as a venture to fund their ski trip. Yes, you read it right! They began selling t-shirts from their camper van to gather the cash. From those humble beginnings to having a presence in the US and Canada today, FatFace's journey is inspirational.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of shopping community LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Next's acquisition spree showcases its strategic approach to consolidate its high-street dominance. This FatFace deal further underscores that intent. I don't think it's clear yet whether this will be good or bad for UK shoppers."

I really hope FatFace can keep its unique identity but somehow I doubt it wil a shame if it doesn’t.
