TikToker Raves About 50p Tesco Product That Saves Using The Dryer
Hey Deal Hunters,
With winter around the corner, drying clothes indoors can be a challenge, especially if you're not a fan of sky-high energy bills from using the dryer! Well, we've got a cost-effective solution for you.
Tom Malley at The Sun reported that a savvy shopper, Kara, has shared her secret weapon for drying clothes indoors during the colder months. A mere 50p Tesco essential known as the 2 in 1 Keep It Handy Dehumidifier, or more commonly, the damp trap.
Not only does this little gem efficiently suck out the moisture from clothes, but it's also a guard against mould and condensation that can play havoc with your laundry. Ideal for conservatories and bathrooms, it keeps the environment fresh by removing unwanted odours. Kara's testimony is simple: "They’re cheap enough to buy in most places and will suck all the moisture out of the air while you’re drying clothes indoors.”
The buzz is real! Numerous comments on Kara's TikTok (@theonlywayis_pink) lauded the tip, with many thanking her for the fantastic advice. And if you're thinking, "But I don’t shop at Tesco," fear not! Kara mentioned these damp traps can also be snagged at Home Bargains, Poundland, and B&M.
But wait, there's more! Kara has other tricks up her sleeve. To speed up drying, she suggests the "drain & spin" cycle on your washing machine and positioning your airer near sunny spots. She advises against overloading airers and recommends hanging clothing over two bars to allow air circulation. Another smart idea is placing your clothes dryer over a stair banister to make use of rising heat.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of shopping community LatestDeals.co.uk, weighs in: "It's incredible how such a simple, affordable product can make a significant difference. This goes on to show that saving money often requires a mix of creativity and smart shopping!"
We have to dry our clothes indoors as we don’t have any outside space. I don’t like using the tumble drier unless I have to.
I wash the majority of clothes on a 1400 spin cycle and then do an extra 1600 spin. We have electric storage heaters not radiators so can’t put anything on them or within 12 inches of them. I have 3 of the concertina airers and have always hung things over 2, 3 or even 4 bars so air can get between. Large items like duvet covers get hung over the top of all 3 airers in a line. I always have the airers in front of my huge 106” high windows - open in summer, on vent in winter, to help with circulating the air around the washing.
We also have the Unibond Aero Moisture traps that are refillable in various places that are brilliant at removing moisture from the air.
I have been doing this for nearly 20 years we have lived here (admittedly the damp traps have only been the last 6 or 7 years) but my washing is always dry within a day, with the drier being used for 5-10 minutes to “finish off” on thicker items (jeans usually) if necessary. We have never had mould and no condensation on the windows since using the damp traps.
