If your kitchen is in serious need of a revamp but you don’t want to spend thousands refurbishing it, take inspiration from this money-saving mum.

Sheree Smith, 41, a mum of one from Leeds, wanted to transform her kitchen into a cool space, but didn’t want to blow the budget.

Instead, Sheree decided to take on the project herself, loading up on budget materials from B&Q, IKEA and Facebook Marketplace, and pulled off an incredible transformation for just £180.

Sheree, who works for a property management firm, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "My inspiration actually came from a Yorkshire photo wall in IKEA and I wanted to celebrate my beautiful city of Leeds by doing a wall in my house.

"I’ve had so many tables over the years but they just get in the way and I’ve wanted to do something like this since I moved in here 10 years ago.

“Firstly I had to remove and box up all 100 of my Disney mugs, then remove the bars that were holding them and all the rawl plugs, this took half the wall with it!

"I filled the holes and sanded, put up the wallpaper, then the next morning when the paper was dry, I marked and drilled the holes for the brackets.

"I fitted the legs to the plank of wood, lifted it into place and fixed it. Then I stuck the LEDs under the bar and voilà: a pretty breakfast bar!

“I bought the plank of wood measuring 4m x 25cm x 4cm for £25 from my local timber yard.

“The legs were £15 each from B&Q, and I bought three L Brackets for £3.25 each from Wilko. The bar stools, which cost £28 for four, were purchased on Marketplace.

"I purchased the chevron wallpaper from Al Murad for £5.99 a roll. I hung it by myself.

“My picture wall was made from IKEA Ribba frames bought on Facebook Marketplace and my pictures which I had printed.

"These cost me about £65 in total, but really finish it off perfectly.

“I used different pictures from Leeds, Elland Road and Billy Bremner statue, Leeds Town Hall, the castle in Roundhay Park, the Black Prince statue and Leeds Docks.

"I downloaded the images from Shutterstock and used a photo printing app to order the prints.

"The total cost of the wallpaper and bar including LEDs and barstools was £115.

“That means the whole project cost £180 in total."

Sheree is over the moon with the look of her finished breakfast bar, and says she's saved a fortune doing it herself.

"I love how it has turned out,” she says. "My son Alfie likes to sit there and chat to me whilst I’m cooking tea.

"Every time I walk into my kitchen it makes me smile because it looks so nice!

"It feels great seeing the results I have for such little money. The hard work and determination I have put in has definitely paid off.

"I have friends who are professional tradesmen who have complimented my work.

"My main tip is buy a drill: you never know when it will come in handy.

"As a single mum doing it on my own, my tool box is one of my most important possessions!

"I feel I have saved a fortune doing it myself than if I’d have got a professional in. There’s nothing I can’t do when I put my mind to it!”

“I love the on-trend details she’s included, such as the chevron wallpaper, eclectic gallery wall and funky LED lights.

“Best of all, Sheree’s transformation shows that to totally overhaul your home, you really don’t need to spend thousands.

“Using budget materials and clever tweaks, her kitchen looks unrecognisable - and all for under £200!"
