Savvy Mum Reveals £30 Amazon Wallpaper Hack To Achieve Scandi Headboard
- Julie Phillips, 50, didn’t want to spend a fortune on an expensive natural oak headboard
- She created her own wooden-style headboard using £12.49 Amazon wallpaper, a Craftright knife and some wallpaper paste
- The transformation took Julie under an hour and saved her hundreds of pounds
A well-chosen headboard can transform a room and be an attention-grabbing centrepiece.
But they can cost a fortune, with online options costing hundreds or even thousands.
Julie Phillips, 50, a married mum of two from Lincoln, wanted to give her bedroom a Scandi look, but didn’t want to spend a fortune on an expensive natural oak headboard.
Instead, she bought some £12.49 Amazon wallpaper, and created her very own headboard using the budget material, wallpaper paste and a craft knife.
Julie told money-saving Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK: "The inspiration for the headboard was actually the natural oak interior doors in my home!
"I just love the look of the natural wood, it’s so stylish and elegant.
"I wanted a headboard which was very similar with a Scandinavian look to it.
"I looked at lots of headboards online, but they were so expensive.
"The oak slatted headboards online I liked was £259 for a super king-sized bed.
"So I thought there must be a cheaper way to achieve this look without spending a fortune.
"As an avid DIYer, I love nothing more than to decorate and create new ideas in my home.
"So I started to scroll through the internet, in search of some ideas.
“When I came across the Fresco Natural Wooden Slats Wallpaper on Amazon, it was exactly what I was looking for.
"I ordered two rolls of the wallpaper at £12.49 each, a Craftright knife and some wallpaper paste.
"When the wallpaper arrived, I played around with a few ideas.
“I cut lots of strips off the wallpaper and layered them on top of one another until finally, I got the perfect match.
"I found by just removing the black edge of the wallpaper roll with a craft knife and creating an angled trim to match the outer colour of the headboard it worked perfectly.
"As soon as I added the trim on top of the wallpaper, it transformed the look and gave it a wonderful framed headboard finish.
“I'm absolutely made up with how it turned out.
“It has given my room a warm, cosy Scandinavian feel, which is exactly what I wanted.
"The wallpaper is so easy to hang and match, and it took just over an hour to achieve the finished look.
"Just by adding a few green plants to the room, it complimented the look of the white and wood, creating the Scandinavian look I wanted.
"My next job will be to add some nice feature wall lights along the side of the headboard to complete the look.
"The total cost was less than £30, which was so affordable, especially when on a budget.
"I was made up that I had saved so much money compared to buying a new headboard, and I can always recreate a new headboard by changing the wallpaper. It was definitely a more affordable option.
“It just goes to show if you shop around and play around with some ideas you can achieve a great original and unique look at the fraction of the cost!”
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “Julie’s idea is genius! She’s not only saved a fortune on buying a brand new headboard, but has given us all a masterclass in coming up with innovative ideas that don’t take long but look great.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if this clever idea catches on and becomes a trend!"
