How to Save Money When Cooking on a Budget for Big Family
Tom Church, Co-founder of money saving community Latestdeals.co.uk shares 5 tips for families to save money on their weekly food shop.
1. Batch Cook Meals
"Cooking your recipes in bulk is one of the easiest ways to save money on your family's food. Double or even triple up your ingredients, cook, then portion them out and freeze for later in the week".
2. Meal Plan
"At the start of a new week, or end of the previous week, sit down and write out a meal plan. Once you've got your meals sorted, write your shopping list. When you're in the shops, do NOT stray from this list. It's those extra items that end up costing you. Sticking to your list of essentials for that week's food is the most efficient way to shop".
3. Avoid Ready Meals
"Home cooking not only tastes better, it's also much more economical than buying a ready meal. Buying the raw ingredients, and putting the meal together yourself will save you £100s over the course of a year".
4. Go Veggie
"You don't need to go vegetarian to save money on your food shop, but skipping meat a couple of times a week is an easy way to cut down the cost of your dinners. Batch cook a veggie lasagne, or whip up a vegetable stir fry and save on the cost of pricey meat and fish".
5. Compare Prices
"Use the Latest Deals Supermarket Price Comparison Tool to find the best prices on food and drink. Just search for an item and you'll see where it's available starting from the lowest to highest price".
6. Find Cheap Supermarket Deals
"Find cheap supermarket deals on Latest Deals. You can use the Retailers page to search for specific supermarkets, or search for Food & Drink deals to see them all".
