Tesco Launches New Online Marketplace to Become One-Stop Shop
- Tesco launches an online marketplace with 9,000 third-party products.
- New offerings include DIY, garden, homeware, pet care, and toys.
- Customers can earn Clubcard points on all marketplace purchases.
Tesco has introduced an online marketplace, significantly expanding its product range and aiming to become a one-stop shop for customers. The new platform integrates 9,000 products from various third-party sellers, including items in categories such as DIY, garden, homeware, pet care, and toys.
By offering these third-party products alongside groceries on Tesco.com and the Tesco app, the supermarket hopes to enhance convenience for its customers. While the groceries will be fulfilled by Tesco, the marketplace items will be shipped directly by the suppliers.
Aoife Morgan at Retail Gazette reported that the marketplace initially launched with 17 sellers, featuring well-known brands like Diegeo, Silentnight, Tefal, Tommee Tippee, and Online Home Shop.
Peter Filcek, Tesco's Marketplace Director, shared his enthusiasm about the launch: “This is a really exciting moment as we expand our online offer – making it even more convenient for customers to shop at Tesco and even more rewarding with customers able to collect Clubcard points on all purchases. We’re constantly looking at ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers, and our new Marketplace offers them the same great quality and value they have come to expect from Tesco across an even bigger range of products, from our specially-selected partners. We look forward to expanding the range of products and brands even more over the coming months.”
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Tesco's move to create an online marketplace is a strategic step towards consolidating its position as a leading retailer. This expansion not only provides greater convenience for shoppers but also offers a broader selection of quality products, all while earning valuable Clubcard points."
They're selling an 8 pack of OHS boucle folding storage cubes for £56.99, these storage cubes at OHS actually cost £28.00. Not such a great deal!
churcher1966 That’s disappointing! Worth checking prices before buying on there. X
Makes sense for Tesco to do this. Tesco Direct failed but the logistics for that they did themselves. This way they just generate the website and all the logistics are handled by the sellers with Tesco charging a fee for being on the marketplace. Same as Amazon marketplace. I doubt the prices will be that competitive but you never know.
