Tesco Makes BIG Change To Yellow Stickers
Tesco, one of the UK's retail giants, is upping its game with the "yellow sticker" bargains. Post a trial run at select supermarkets, they're rolling out new signage, dubbed "reduced in price, just as nice", to spotlight these discounted goodies.
Aimed at making the hunt for deals more straightforward and reducing food wastage, this signage is now live in nearly 300 stores. And guess what? More stores are next in line!
Covering a broad spectrum, these markdown areas showcase everything from fresh produce like salads, meat, and baked goodies, all nearing their sell-by date, to discontinued items and non-food products.
Chiara Fiorillo at Mirror reported that this entire revamp traces back to a survey. Shoppers, it seems, were more inclined to grab more yellow sticker items if the section was more appealing to the eye. The Hatfield Extra store in Hertfordshire was the pioneer in this initiative last October. The results? Manager Michelle Mulholland mentions an evident spike in sales, especially in the fresh food section.
Data always speaks volumes. A YouGov survey, sponsored by Tesco, highlighted that a whopping 69% of shoppers actively scout for discounted items. Moreover, 33% are doing it more often than before.
Tesco's chief customer officer, Alessandra Bellini, puts it succinctly: "These products are just as nice and remind us that there's amazing value awaiting in every Tesco aisle."
However, always a mix of feedback: Over the weekend, one shopper's strategy of swooping in on the reduced meat got her in the line of fire on Mumsnet. While she managed to stock her freezer for a month for less than £7, others labelled her move as 'selfish'.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, says, "The changes at Tesco show a strong move towards combining savings for consumers with environmental considerations. But as always, balance and consideration for others is key when hunting for those bargains."

cruiselover Our Tesco is the same! There's always a crowd round the reduced shelf, but they soon wander off empty-handed.
It is all good and well making use of the yellow stickers. However, too often the person at the front of the queue snaps up every 'bargain' selfishly leaving nothing for pensioners or those in more need. A limit needs to be imposed on these
