- Inside, a hidden door leads to a swanky hotel with a modern, New York Plaza-style design
- The hotel spans three floors, each with its own bar and draught beers
- A unique twist for Wetherspoons fans: rare bar features and spacious hotel rooms
Story: The Mile Castle in Newcastle has officially earned the title of the UK’s first "superspoons," following a remarkable £5million makeover. While it looks like any other Wetherspoons pub from the outside, this venue offers a surprise once you step inside. The venue, once a bank dating back to the 1800s, has undergone an extensive transformation, revealing a hidden door that leads to a chic New York Plaza-style hotel. Each of the hotel's three floors boasts its own bar serving draught beers, blending traditional pub vibes with modern hotel luxuries.
The project, which started earlier this year, was a long time coming since Wetherspoons initially acquired the site in 2009. The upgrade includes not only a new cellar and extended bar but also redesigned lighting and carpets. The hotel rooms are spacious and modern, a stark contrast to the typical Wetherspoons experience.
As for the price of the pints, the cheapest beer available is surprisingly affordable, continuing the brand's tradition of offering great value.
Tom Church’s neutral comment: "Wetherspoons' creative approach with this new 'superspoons' concept shows how they’re evolving to meet changing customer needs. The addition of a hotel and more modern amenities is an interesting twist that could set a new trend for the chain."
