A thrifty shopper has revealed how he got £35 of Greggs snacks for under £3 - and how anyone can do it.

Joao Maria Gama, 33, from Leagrave, uses the money-saving app Too Good To Go to grab discounted food.

The app allows shoppers to pick up food at heavily discounted prices to avoid food waste and save money along the way.

Joao, who works as cabin crew, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: “From my most recent Too Good To Go order, I managed to get four caramel muffins, four white chocolate cookies, three ham and cheese sandwiches, two iced ring donuts, two fruit salads, four sausage rolls, one Belgian bun and two caramel pastries.

“On the app you choose your location and you can see which businesses work with Too Good To Go and at what time they make the bags available.

"When the time comes, if you’re quick enough you’ll reserve the bag to be collected either on the same day or the day after between certain times.

"I always check the reviews to make sure that the quality and quantity offered is to my satisfaction, which it usually is.

"On this specific deal I paid £2.59 for all those goods.

"I’ve checked the regular prices and I saved over £35 which is amazing!

"The trick for me is to pay attention to which shops and restaurants are available on Too Good To Go, check at what time I can reserve and set an alarm on my phone so I don’t miss it.

“The previous bags I’ve got were also from Greggs and the quantity and quality was also similar.

“I love Too Good To Go because it’s great for saving money, protecting the environment, and avoiding food waste.

“These are essential habits that benefit individuals and society.

"Also, saving money ensures financial stability, prepares you for emergencies, and enables long-term goals like education or retirement.

“Too Good To Go also helps prevent food waste, meaning I can help in my small way to preserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and combat climate change, securing a liveable planet for future generations.

"Avoiding food waste minimises the environmental toll of food production, reduces greenhouse gas emissions from waste, and ensures resources like water and energy are used efficiently.

"Together, these practices promote sustainability, responsibility, and a healthier future for all.

“Too Good To Go is also amazing because I can share food with friends and also show them how much money they can save if they choose to buy food in this way.”

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “While we all love Gregg’s for its affordability, I’d never expect to pick up so much food for just £2.59.

“Joao is a super shopper: by using Too Good To Go, he’s bagged an absolute bargain: a bag full of delicious Greggs goodies worth over £35.

“Another trick to saving money on Greggs is to check the dedicated page on our website or app, where you’ll find everything from discount codes to gift card hacks.”
