- Poundland will close all stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to give staff a break
- Over 18,000 employees will receive a £25 in-store voucher as a festive gesture
- Temporary recruitment drive underway for 1,000 seasonal roles
Poundland has announced it will shut its 800+ UK and Ireland stores on December 26 (Boxing Day) and January 1 (New Year’s Day) to give staff a well-earned rest after the festive period. The retailer will also gift each of its 18,000 employees a £25 voucher to spend in-store before Christmas.
Simon Wells, People Director at Poundland, said: “We have brilliant colleagues here at Poundland and Dealz who work incredibly hard throughout the year. We’re delighted to support them with a well-earned rest once the festive season is over.”
To manage the busy Christmas period, Poundland is also recruiting 1,000 seasonal staff, with contracts running until Christmas Eve and some extended into January. The chain has doubled staff discounts on weekends to further support employees.
Poundland joins other retailers such as Aldi, Waitrose, and John Lewis in closing stores on Boxing Day. Shoppers are encouraged to check opening hours during the festive season to avoid disappointment.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented: “It’s fantastic to see Poundland recognising their employees’ hard work. The store closures and vouchers are a wonderful gesture that reflects the value of staff well-being."
