Wilko Returns To The Highstreet With 3 New Stores Set To Open Before Christmas
Attention, savvy shoppers! Here's a much-needed boost for our high streets and your wallets. Wilko, the beloved household and garden retailer, is gearing up for a grand return. The Range, another discount giant, scooped up Wilko's name and intellectual property earlier this year. Now, they're set to reignite the Wilko brand, launching stores in three key locations: Plymouth, Exeter, and Luton, just in time for Christmas shopping.
This strategic move is more than just store openings; it's a revival of a brand we thought we'd lost. The Range founder, Chris Dawson, along with CEO Alex Simpkin, has revealed plans to open up to 300 stores, nearly replicating Wilko's former glory of 406 outlets. That's a significant boost for local economies and job seekers, as each store brings numerous employment opportunities. In fact, there's already a buzz on social media, with fans expressing relief and excitement, especially for the potential re-employment of former Wilko staff.
James Flanders at The Sun reported that the Range’s career site has been bustling with job listings for these locations, indicating a swift operational rollout. These openings aren't just about bringing back a familiar name; they represent a broader commitment to revitalizing our high streets. Plus, for us deal hunters, it means more options to snag those bargains!
Wilko's fall into administration was a blow, but its phoenix-like resurgence under The Range's wing is a testament to the enduring appeal of affordable, quality retail. The Range’s initiative to retain the Wilko brand within its stores and online demonstrates a savvy understanding of consumer loyalty and market dynamics.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, sums it up perfectly: “This is a positive turn for consumers and the retail sector. The return of Wilko under The Range's management not only saves a familiar brand but also revitalizes our high streets and brings much-needed job opportunities.”
Good luck to them. I used to be a regular Wilko customer perhaps 5 years ago but felt the value declined a lot more so than other stores and stopped using them. I hope the new Wilko is better managed. Sadly I'm not really a fan of the Range and rarely buy from them. I prefer Home Bargains, Poundstretcher and Poundland.
