Woman Reveals Hacks For Clean & Odour-Free Kitchen With £1 Wilko Bargains
- Freya, 29, keeps her kitchen clean with bargain supplies
- Purchases include £1 disinfectant spray and £2.50 fridge cleaner
- Her cleaning hacks include filling the sink with Zoflora and a wax melt schedule
Keeping the kitchen smelling fresh and feeling clean can be a challenge, but one savvy cleaner has shared her hacks for giving the space an overhaul on a budget.
Freya Farrington, 29 from Greater Manchester, who is a YouTuber and social media influencer, sharing posts on her Instagram and YouTube accounts, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: ‘I love to stock up on cleaning supplies and fortunately it’s easy to do so if you’re on a budget.
‘I have learned some tricks to keep the kitchen smelling amazing and developed a routine I do regularly to maintain its cleanliness.
‘There are some supplies I get regularly, these include Air Wick plugins from Poundland which only set me back a couple of pounds. There are plenty of scents but I love the Fresh Forest Pine one as it matches perfectly with the other products I gravitate towards.
‘Whenever my partner and I go to B&Q to stock up on DIY supplies I always pick up their ScentSicles which are £6 for a pack of 6. I like to hang these inside wardrobes and on cupboards to keep a nice scent circulating around rooms.
‘If I want to add a special touch I will go to TK Maxx and pick up small hanging decorations with fragrance oil for £4.99. You drop the oil onto the ceramic and hang them up around the house, they leave a lovely scent!
‘When it comes to active cleaning Zoflora is my trusty favourite, this disinfectant cleaner can be bought from places like Wilko and Poundland for just £1. Alternatively I have also used the Astonish disinfectant which is priced at £2.99 at TK Maxx. My other go-to is the Stardrops 4 in 1 disinfectant spray which is available for £1 at Poundland.
‘My trick with Zoflora is to fill a sink with a solution of this cleaner and hot water, as it fills the room with the fragrance!
‘I also get wax melts to keep the pleasant scents going, and my favourites are the ScentSationals melts from Asda which you can buy with a 3 for £5 offer. I tend to purchase the Sugar Pine scent to go with my other supplies.
‘A good alternative to wax melts is a nice room spray, and a budget alternative to expensive brands is the Lidl Luxury Collection spray which only costs £3.99.
‘The first thing I do when cleaning is put on a wash so that by the time I’m done the laundry will be ready to hang out to dry.
‘If I’m doing an intensive clean I will clean out the fridge freezer using the Ozmo fridge and microwave cleaner. This product only costs £2.50 from stores such as Ocado and Amazon.
‘I will clean out the oven to eliminate the possibility of bad smells coming from there. Most standard oven cleaners cost around £3 on average from supermarkets such as Tesco.
‘I make a habit of cleaning the cabinets, and for this job I will typically use typical products such as Flash cleaner and Dettol wipes. These products can easily be bought during any grocery shop for a couple of pounds each at the most.
‘I also will clean the washing machine regularly using the Oust dishwasher and washing machine cleaner. These sachets can be purchased in packs of two from Amazon for around £3. From time to time I will give this appliance a scrub afterwards as well.
‘The next step is to hoover the kitchen and wipe down any marks. To make the job easier I invested in a cordless hoover. I will never be able to go back to a corded one as these are much more convenient. I have the Eufy HomeVac S11 Infinity Cordless Stick-Vacuum Cleaner for £279.
‘After I have tidied up the counters and loaded the dishwasher, I will load the sink with my Zoflora and warm water solution. Then I will drop two cloths into the mix to wipe down the kitchen surfaces. By doing this, the counters will be disinfected and also smell great!
‘Every few weeks, when I clean the washing machine, oven and so on, I will also clean the hob using standard cleaning wipes and all purpose degreaser. These products are only around £1 each on average from any supermarket or bargain store.
‘The last touch for any finished kitchen clean is to pop on a wax melt. This ensures I have a lovely scent filling the space.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘Freya’s cleaning routine, as well as the products she picks up on the cheap, are sure to be an inspiration to anyone struggling with knowing how to keep this space clean and fresh.
‘There’s no need to spend huge amounts of money on cleaning products, as you can cover all of the bases with just a few items from bargain stores such as Wilko and Poundland.
‘Investing in a cordless vacuum cleaner is also great for convenience. It’s much easier to reach awkward corners and they will sometimes come with detachable batteries for easier charging.’
