Update 7th August 2023 - Currently the best discount code for Railcards is via TrainPal, which has a Β£3 off discount code: "RAILCARD". See here for more information.
Get 1/3rd off adult rail fares and 60% off kids fares with a Railcard from Trainline. No code needed just buy the card and enjoy the benefits straight away!
What is a Railcard?
A Railcard is a discount card that allows you to save up to 1/3rd off the price of eligible train tickets, making it a great way to secure cheap fares.
How much is a Railcard?
All new Railcards cost Β£30 for the whole year, except for the Disabled Persons Railcard, which costs just Β£20. Once you have a Railcard, you can get 1/3 off the price of your rail travel, making it a great way to secure cheap fares. Some Railcards are also available as a three-year option for Β£70, giving you even greater value for money.
When can I use a Railcard?
Again, this depends on the type of Railcard you have. Generally, all Railcards can be used for discounted train fares during Off-Peak times, weekends, and public holidays. Some, like the age-related Railcards, can be used during Peak times with a minimum fare, and the Disabled Persons Railcard can be used at any time.
Which tickets can you save money on?
It varies depending on the type of Railcard you have, as some are valid for use during Peak times, but generally, as a Railcard holder you can save money on Advance tickets, Off-Peak, Standard, and First Class tickets.
What Savings Can I Make?
Alternative Railcard Discount Code
If you use the app MyTrainPal, you can save Β£3 when buying a Railcard by using the discount code: RAILCARD. See here
Is that for everyone folks?! I have heard about that but i think it's limited for 30 yrs old
PollyCracker Follow the link to trainline. You answer a couple of questions and it tells you which card is suitable for you
Annoyingly, it does not include the disabled persons Railcard. Includes Senior, so I donβt see what the problem is with them. A bit frustrating really
ver The disabled adult persons railcard is already a real bargain at its price of Β£20 (All the others are Β£30). It also allows you to take any second person for the same discounted rate if you wish.
The only other adult railcard that allows this is the Two Together. However the second person travelling with you MUST be named and have their photo on the card too. You cannot travel alone with this railcard.
If you have Tesco clubcard points you can convert them to three times their value (eg; Β£7 clubcard points = Β£21) This will effectively get you a disabled persons railcard for FREE!
Hope this helps someone
Bought this right now and im really grateful for the code. Will encourage me out the house after 2 years in & will see more of our beautiful country. Thanks OP
This is a great idea giving you a Β£10 discount if you use trains alo't to get about. Thank you for sharing
Was looking at the prices for the train last night this will be really helpful much appreciated for sharing
I tried to buy a railcard, but when I put in my details it said there was nothing available for me.
I put in my age ( under 60 ), I travel alone, and not just London and the southeast, so it seems it would only be useful if I wanted to only go to London and the southeast. Unfortunately I want to visit my sons in Manchester and daughter in Bath, so not helpful for me. Thanks anyway
alihenshaw I'm unable to mark the post as expired and I cannot edit it either.
