My daughter has grown strawberry plants from the seeds of strawberries and they are doing really well. A lot cheaper than £4.95. I would never pay that for postage.
eyeballkerry ...I grew Spring Onions by chopping the root bit & leaving around an inch, they did well..
Tried doing the same with Leeks too..
Well done to your daughter showing initiative...x
janphoenix51 She has also grown lettuce from lettuces which have done well. She cuts off the piece where the root is and leaves in water until it starts to grow then puts in a pot of soil. She has also grown pumpkins from pumpkin seeds and these are doing really well. Already have one really big orange one. Will try posting a picture.
Can’t beat the taste of freshly picked strawberries and even better if you’ve grown them yourself
I grow strawberries. Lots of them..offer them to neighbours for free and also the plants they give off..winner winner all round
Kitty10 ...Well done thinking of others,on the estate I work in Supported Living where I take the Service Users for a walk there's an old couple with a lovely garden who leave their home grown vegetables out for the community to take for free.
On another part of the estate some kind people left a few Tomato plants out for people to take for free,I took 2 for the garden where I work & my colleague planted them in a grow bag..
Plants now have 4 Tomatoes between them but unfortunately the cat from next door keeps digging them up while using the grow bag as a toilet!!
Can you keep Tomato plants in pots to stop this..
I was given a Tomato Plant by an old friend & kept it in a pot,our cats & their many friends don't touch it,just sniff it!
No I haven't grown a cat, that's Phoenix resting in my trough to the top left!
janphoenix51 yes you can grow tomatoes in pots. Even hanging baskets the small variety with some basil..you can just lean out of your back door to add straight into your cooking pot..
I have cats and they love to dig up my garden but I have been using used teabags sprayed with deep heat buried in the soil..failing that try sprinkling some cinnamon around the base of the plant..works wonders for me even keeps the mice away..Happy gardening. I love to garden and could chat about it all day long x
Kitty10 ..
Thanks for the advice..x
.I don't like Mousies but our Torti n her black brother Phoenix like to bring presents of dead Mousies, especially Phoenix..
Cinnamon would be no good for those!
