Anyone for Fish and Chips ?

Other

Being a wombler I really love finding old receipts and seeing the prices of even from 12 months ago but seen this on facebook and it made me wonder how long the queue would be if these were the prices at your local chippy . It's a chip shop from 1976 and it cost a fortune of 21p for Fish and Chips .Image

I remember when it was 5p to travel on the bus. But instead of paying I spent my money on snacks after swimming and walked home.

eyeballkerry oh your reply brought back memories of my friend and l who use to get the bus after school the fare was 10pence and if the bus wasn't there we would walk to the bakers which was on the way home and buy a pink slice for 10pence, sometimes we would get half way home before a bus would go pass us and we would still be enjoying a cake 🍰

Pinkspirit Thats so funny and weird you did the same. At least we walked the calories off back then. Good to reminisce.

Adjusting for inflation these fish and chips would be £1.86 today. Even at that price i think you’d have a queue for miles!

Back in 1976 a new Ford Cortina was about £2k and the average house price about £12k and the weekly wage about £65. Even so this still seems cheap, maybe fish were more abundant back then.

Crazy! This really highlights how there's been such an increase in pricing yet reduced value 🙄

30p for a bit of chicken? That was over twice the price of the fish.

In today's money, it would cost around £15 for a piece of chicken at our local chippy

TheChimp There were probably more free range chickens back in the day TC, so they would have been more expensive than today for that reason

Now they are crammed by the thousands into enclosures , fed the cheapest grain and pumped full of chemicals and water to make them grow faster and bigger, so they can afford to keep them 'cheap' , if you will excuse the pun 😉
