Has Anyone Seen George Formby's Movies?
Other
A few years ago I watched "George in Civvy Street" and I really enjoyed it, it almost didn't feel like I was watching an English movie, but an old black and white American one. ha ha
Now, I want to watch his previous ones although my options are either to buy the DVDs (haven't done in a while) or maybe it's on YouTube (dunno about paid streaming services having it).
No I haven't but I do like the old B&W films. You can get most of them from YT anyways. What I like to do Is watch the film and If Its any good I will buy It on DVD. Even though everything nowadays Is streaming, If Its any good I still like a physical disc. Looking on ebay his collection Is £10.25 used. I have ordered before from them and they are like new.
Emerge11 You're right, they are on YT.

I'll try to watch one per week to make it last longer.
I'm not so much into George Formby I find his music a bit irritating to be honest but it does have a nostalgic charm I'll admit. The older British comedies I really enjoy are the 'Will Hay' movies and I think a few full movies are on youtube. Another classic b/w movie is the Ghost Train with Arther Askey who is perhaps more irritating than George Formby but still a good movie. Of course for British comedies you have to mention Ealing Studios who did many brilliant comedy movies.
BonzoBanana my sons used to love watching Harold Lloyd, he was well known for 'the clock'.
I bought about 12 on e bay.My hubby(RIP) was a big fan.I think they're great.Frank Skinner is a big fan as well
Obviously yes, love his old films and black and white films in general, I watched laurel and hardy a few weeks ago and Norman wisdom
I reckon most over 60s have seen at least one. With only a couple of tv stations and no streaming services whatsoever they were on tv a lot. I remember enjoying them. He also recorded lots of his songs and I can still sing all the words to 'I'm standing on the corner leaning up against a lamppost 'case a certain little lady goes by'. That's the first line but can't remember the actual title!
Anyone know if any of his films were ever remastered in HD or left in the past sort of forgotten?
Chances are 30 and 40 year olds (never mind 20yos) don't know who George Formby was unless they accidentally came across a movie of his, like it happened to me.
PhilipMarc Yes P

telmel I've not bought a DVD in years, but for Formby I'll make an exception. I truly enjoyed his final movie so much.
If only we could get a complete set of John Wayne / Clint Eastwood movies, of course not, because of publishers and whatnot. :/
PhilipMarc They would just tell you to get on your horse and get the h ell outta here
telmel Bought the set on Vinted for £6.67 delivered.
It's also on auction at eBay, but I didn't feel like sniping it.

Otherwise, it's £15+ used on Amazon and £8 on CeX In-Store or £10.95 delivered.

The new CeX website kinda sucks as it's not as smooth as the old one was and this newer version tries to be more like a marketplace (while hiding the prices they buy for unless you click on the item).
That said, £10.95 delivered is a decent price although I won't post that as a deal. Newer generations should definitely check out Formby's movies.
